Tim, have you tried Speedy Exhaust/Muffler on E Wash.? Are they even still in business? I had work done there 3 years ago.

@OldSchlPunk if you haven’t already I think you need to find time to check out the Barber Motorsports vintage museum. All the bikes! I’ve been here 15 minutes and I am in awe.

I think in general crawling is probably harder on driveline components due to high torque and shock loading and high speed driving is harder on suspension due to heat and constant cycling

It’s funny that you see adjustable shocks with high and low speed compression damping, but only one general rebound damping adjustment…at least that I have seen. That thunking is pretty annoying.

I stopped in there, a black guy was just getting in his truck to leave and he says to me... "make sure you get a receipt!". It kinda gave me a bad vibe, but maybe it was just one guy with a bad experience. Did they do good work for you?

Gonna have to rename this thread to the Wisconsin coffee thread

Suspension testing now involves a cup of coffee and seeing how fast you can go without spilling it on yourself

In my case, it’s not normal extension forces, since it’s essentially a spring powered (undamped) release of one side of the rear axle. The thumping would be even harder/harsher with a limit strap, unless they make limit strap arrangements with some sort of rubber damping. Right now, at least the blow of a sudden extension is somewhat absorbed by the rubber shock mounts. It might wreck the shocks eventually, but then at least it will force me to figure things out and find a shock that controls unloaded rebound a bit better.

yeah, i mean you can do a zoned bypass shock or something that will have a hydraulic 'bump' zone at compression and droop, which is appealing. a limit strap will still help with your issue though, you set the strap to be a bit shorter than full extension of the shock. that's how my front limit straps are set up. the rears are limited by the spring pack at the moment but will be strapped with the rear end rebuild.

I'll preface my response by saying that I'm doing my best to be nice today. :)

It's a super mild 5th gen 4Runner, bypasses will be worse in every way for his use case and limit straps are completely unnecessary.

I was content with the work. I needed a pipe between the cat and muffler on the Camry. IIRC $245, 45 mins. Was worth it to eliminate the drone. They have been (were?) on E Wash for a very long time. Too bad Exhaust Pro's is no longer on Cottage Grove Rd. They did decent work that was the cheapest in town.

I know that some of you heard stories about how deep the mud was in Arkansas this spring. Not kidding when I say-scared the sheet out of me deep. Up over the flatbed bed deep. Here is some proof-finally getting to some service that needs to be done. There is mud all the way to the airfilter. Thats over 4'. Mud is no joke... and I hate it.
