To be intellectually honest, your comparison is to a 50k model. I paid 38k, which is an entirely different and reasonable proposition. My daughter paid 34.5k for an sr5 4x2 in 2022. My sr5 4x4 long bed is a value in comparison. It has all the right amount of tech. Yes, they are selling it discounts but so is every other vehicle out there because interest rates are high so people aren’t buying cars at the same rate they used to When interest rates were 3%. That’s not Toyota problem. It’s an industry problem. It’s an economic problem.

Some people are just very out of touch on auto pricing these days. Comparing a $50k Tacoma to a luxury car tells me you haven’t priced luxury cars lately. What used to be a 50k luxury car is now +80k.

And even a 2023 3rd Gen Tacoma was very close to $50k when it was fully loaded. I own a 2023, I’ve put 25,000 miles on it in the last year. I’m in the middle of a 4000 mile road trip in it right now. It suits my needs for many reasons, off-road ability, 6 foot bed, Toyota, reliability, etc. But it’s also the worst driving truck I’ve ever ever owned by a large margin. Previous vehicles were an LX 470 and a 2nd gen Tacoma. The 3rd gen is worse than both. I’ve test driven a 24 and I can’t wait to make the switch soon.

Yes, it’ll cost a little more. Well worth it from my point of view.

That sounds like a fully informed opinion from someone whose own several. Maybe drive a new Defender and experience something new, you just might like it.

And before you recycle the same tired old “unreliable” argument, it doesn’t apply to the new Defender. It doesn’t share the parts bin from the Range Rover, it’s new from the ground up and its powertrain is in its 5th year of production with no unresolved issues. Many people have 150k on them with no problems. Initially, they had software glitches that caused issues like TFL found, but they have since been fixed. Every other manufacturer has similar software glitches, so it’s not fair to single LR out for that. I did my research before buying and as a Toyota buyer, I couldn’t be happier.

I blew doors on a 4th Gen on the way to Vegas last week. Past it like it was standing still. So what? No one buys a Tacoma to race it.

All I can say is out of touch or not , new cars in general are way too much money to spend on a depreciating asset , so I guess I’ll be driving my 2019 until the wheels fall off . It’s not worth it to me , considering all it takes is some asshat to swing open a door and give you a nice dent or a runaway push cart into the side of my truck . I agree the new truck does feel better behind the wheel, but since mine is all paid off better or not , I’m not dumping more money into another rig . But that’s my opinion, not everyone’s

The 4th gen is faster than the 3rd gen by all metrics, really doubt the other person knew you were racing if you really "blew the doors off of it".

I agree with nobody should be buying trucks to race them(people still do) but regardless it's nice to have some more low end power.

Honestly, if you are that into power for your midsize truck, go with the 2.7 in the ford or the Chevy’s new 430tq/310 hp options.

I think we’re all here because we know that Toyota tends, not always, to be conservative with power which leads to longer lasting vehicles.

Same here, except mine is 2014 access cab with a 6 speed.
Mine is also one of the very few that won't fit on the dyno for emissions testing, so they just check the ECU.
I'm also not in to all the electronics they put in newer vehicles.
Are they even making the Tacoma with a manual trans anymore?

    0-60 7.0 vs avg 7.5 for 3rd gem
    1/4 15.3 vs 15.9 avg for 3rd.

Not that big of a difference imo for the extra cost, hardware and all the hype.

What a difference it said starting at $43995 without freight I paid $48xxx CDN for my 24 offroad manual which works out to $37,xxx USD and comes with mud flaps rubber mats heated seats. Mind you we pay 15% tax in our province.

A bit of gentle pushback on your comment. A Taco likely has one of the shallowest depreciation rates of all new cars. I put 5k kms. On my 6 speed trd sport and the dealer gave me back more than I paid. My 24 trd pro is likely worth a bunch more than I paid.

Yes that is true . Depreciation on these trucks is awesome for sure . Actually shocking . So I guess my argument is a little weak in some areas .
