Talk about polite, I bought one of those talking scales and the first time I stepped on it the dang thing said “one person at a time please”

 

When I was 17, during the oil embargo and gas lines. Just don’t like that empty feeling

 

I've probably seen the gas light with every tank. On nearly every vehicle I've owned.

The only fuel pump I've replaced was on a 99 Miata which ironically didn't have a low fuel indicator. I only replaced it with a high flow pump since I was doubling the HP.

I also managed to finally put 20 gallons into the truck this week.

 

I get it gasoline, and all prices are getting really stupid ridiculous in "The Peoples Republic of Commiefornia." But I would never run gas that low, like some people wrote, eventually *&%! up electric fuel pump.

 

Not exactly the point of this thread, but ...

I am old enough to have driven cross-country, hit the NE corner of WY on a major road (not a back-country dirt path), reading my paper AAA flip-chart-style travel book and found the flip-page did not lie. ... at one place the "next gas" was 100 miles.

I have seen this warning many times but there is usually a estimated mileage till empty.

I always run 1-2 empty tanks when get a new vehicle, just so that I know exactly how far I can go once the gas light comes on, if the event ever arises.

By my math, I figure I can go 75-100 kilometres once the fuel light comes on. I think the computer estimate 25...

 

If you fill up at 1/2 tank, it doesn't cost as much

Eh. I see it plenty of times. Wife sees it more than me. lol

 

Ignoring of course, the fact you must "fill" twice as often. But then we can explain that to "certain people" that it means you are getting twice the MPG.

 

So what was your distance to empty ?

Seriously tho, I think it was 8 or 12 miles left. It happened when I came to a stop at the light. When I started driving, it went back to Distance to Empty as a number.
