Installed a new overhead box, fixture and set up wiring and switch for the first time with my electrician buddy. Not pictured the interior load bearing wall we first tried to get power from before realizing there were two studs directly adjacent to the top of the double switch we wanted to triple up on. After a few choice words we installed a single switch and pulled power from an interior wall. IMG_2211.jpg

if you still want a switch at the other location, look into the lutron caseta wireless switches. they've got a wall mount kit that makes it look like a normal wall switch

That's slick. There are some questionable switch locations in our house I'd love to change but opening up the walls in those locations is not practical... The light switch in the garage, for example, was hidden by a janky built in the previous owner cobbled together with bits of random cabinet scraps. You had to walk in the garage, open a door on the built in, and the switch was in there. :annoyed: So I updated that light system (converted the led strips on the ceiling) I also installed an occupancy sensor in the ceiling, and I just leave that light switch on now.

Do you excavate some of that dirt out after you pour the ground anchors? Backfill with gravel up to the floor joists?

I will use that dirt to backfill the parameter walls on the high side. This whole thing is meant to sit on the ground. The dirt here is really high clay content. Takes a jack hammer to dig it. Basically a skid building with anchors.

Yep after spending probably ten kilobucks on home automation over 20 years and trying everything wireless for the home as it evolved, Lutron Caseta is the best choice for investing in wireless switches. Not only is it the most reliable and the remote batts (Lutron Pico remotes, cheapest off ebay usually) last for 10+ years, and you can stick remotes to walls with double sided tape and if you prefer can stick a plate cover around it so it looks installed like any other switch.
Caseta comes in multiple color choices and have non-obtrusive geometries. You can pair multiple remotes to switches, and with the hub can set schedules and scenes etc. Most importantly, if you get the Caseta Pro 2 Hub, it speaks Telnet so a Hubitat controller pairs with it perfectly so you can do complex automation of Caseta with all your other devices (motion sensors, other brand wireless switches, door sensors, etc. Right now you can find a Hubitat 7 controller off ebay for $15 (retail is >$100) from a company that bought thousands for a
project and is reselling them now. I bought 5 just based on the low price. Multiple hubitats on the same network can share devices and help
coverage and share CPU if you end up with a lot of (say over 50) automations.

Example automations with Hubitat are things like lights following other lights, lights come on after dark when you open front door, garage motion sensing lights, tell a 2nd garage door to follow the first one, etc. Also phone notifications for things like mailbox opened, water leak sensors, smoke alarms, doors opened when mode is set to 'away' because your phone is not on the network, etc.

Anyway Caseta and Hubitat are the perfect combination. At $15 the hubitat 7 on ebay is a steal right now if you want to mess with automations on top of Caseta.

About to hide some wires in the wall behind the entertainment center so the cat isn’t further tempted to chew them lol.

Cut and painted new pressure treated wood for replacement of outdoor stair treads. Awaiting replacement of Trex for the entire 10x20 deck and stairs.
Tomorrow I'll pull out the old wooden stair treads which are weathered and replace with new. Waiting for Amazon delivery tomorrow for tap and dye
set to remove old one way screws securing wrought iron railing. Tried out a "one way" drill bit...no luck!

Figure out a better layout of the existing space. Neo-angle showers suck for a lot of reasons. lol

Amen! I have two glass corner showers in my current residence, and they SUCK. I had more room on a f'n submarine (NO LIE). I want to tear at least one out to have an adult size shower. If you find a good kit please pass it along.

The Home Depot one looks ok.

I could do a rectangle but then the inside corner is smashing me on the walk to the toilet. Would be much nicer to open the door into the main walk space and have 45’s to the toilet.

Moving toilet to make space for the shower due to the sloped ceiling. Gonna demo the wall tomorrow.

What size is the bathroom space? The smallest working size for a full bath is 5x8'

Can you take that sink out and move it where the coat rack is in the back corner? Maybe put a small 45 degree angle sink in the corner? Put the shower where the sink is and the toilet in front of that wall vent fan? What about a walk in shower with a half glass panel and no door? Something kind of like this...

    half-glass-shower-doors.jpg

edit: Use the entire or most of the existing toilet/sink area for a walk in shower. Move the toilet against the back wall next to the exhaust fan and a sink where the mop bucket/coat rack is.

either that or push the shower up against the wall when you walk in and the toilet in the right corner before the existing sink.

Sink near the door is for sure the best layout and where the vent is. Shower where the toilet was is ideal as well, water heater will be under 2’ away. The toilet under a sloped ceiling in the back corner makes perfect sense and allows retaining the built in cabinet which is nice to have. The sink doesn’t have to be so wide though, it could be replaced with something smaller and the shower elongated. That’s definitely worth considering.
