Lou Fusz Toyota in Saint Louis had a Tacoma Trailhunter, a Tacoma TRD Pro, and a Land Cruiser 1958 on the lot today, none of which were for sale. Some sort of test drive event Toyota was putting on locally.

    Sticker priced at $65k.

The guys told me the Trailhunter had to be (1) displayed inside, and (2) locked so nobody could sit in it.

Still, it was the first one I've gotten to see in person. It's all the money and then some, but the Gen 4s look like a big improvement in how this 6'6" driver fits in the trucks compared to the Gen 3. I'm not ready to move on from my Gen 2 yet, and I'm keeping my Gen 1 forever, but when the time comes a Gen 4 could be a real possibility.

(The first thing they did was take off the name of the other local dealer that had it on display previously!)

At least 5K of add-on junk on that truck that 99% of users don't want or need. Too bad, because I want a LB hybrid someday.

yeah thats a big one for me if im ever to get back into a Tacoma. All the competing mid sizes have some real payload, and i just traded to a full size for towing my camper.

The airbox is totally different due to that snorkel. Very interesting.

Yeah, with Trailhunter logos on the air intake box and headlamps, one thinks the instrument panel might have been on the list too.

Same type of event took place at my local Toyota dealer, as well. Trail Hunter on the showroom floor (ours was open though - I sat in it briefly). The Pro was there for test drives. I’d already put my name on the first White Pro to come in, and after test driving the Terra colored Pro, I reaffirmed my want for the first White one. I’m coming from a ‘16 F-150 Lariat, but now that the kids are gone, gonna “downsize” a little and have some fun.

Why do you think is the reason the Trailhunter has padding under the hood? (Or is it all hybrids)?

Yeah, it's expensive, but that is relative to the buyer's financial situation. To a degree, it's the truck we complained we didn't have available from the factory for quite a while. That said, I'm not buying it because I can't afford it. If they did a reboot of Back to the Future, that would be Marty McFly's dream truck sitting in the driveway.

I'm digging the black trailhunters. I wonder if they will offer them with 6' beds, i've only seen the long bed in bronze.

    There's a 7.3 4x4 Super Cab F-250 listed for $51k on a dealer site.

I do not understand the purchase when, again in my opinion, there are much better options for that cost.

IMO the marketing guys nailed it at Toyota. Add a bunch of cheap extra's and charge a large premium. That snorkel killed this entire version. Ugly as hell, cheap looking and about 1% of actual owners will ever NEED it.

I think there are a lot better truck options out there for the price. That's MSRP to MSRP, before any discounts. F-150 Tremor can be had for less than a Trailhunter. Same as a Silverado Trail Boss. If you are going LB TH, I can't see the 1/2 tons not making sense for overlanding.

I can see someone wanting the Trailhunter because that's what they want.

I don't really want a hybrid, and I can get a TRD OR, SR5, or, SR Tacoma for much less than a Trailhunter. If I felt the need I could go OME aftermarket MT64 or BP51.

2020 would have been the year for the Trailhunter, the market has changed people's lifestyles. The free money and free time people had is gone.
