I owned a very small 3 man cabinet/furniture shop for many years. I worked there when I was in high school and when I got out of the Navy I had no civilian related skills, so I reverted back to what I knew and enjoyed - woodworking.
Over the years as money allowed we got new tools such as nail guns, better sanders and even biscuit cutters. One thing we could not do without was a dado head for our radial arm saws to cut the receiving grooves for the top and bottom horizontal shelves, and one for our small table saw so that we could insert adjustable shelf metal track vertically.
Here is a video, not of one of my guys, but a random guy showing how to use a radial arm saw making those dado cuts.

Table Saw dado much better outcome and much safer. Always using a table sled. This is just my personal opinion from experience.
However you use the tools available ,be safe. I’ve used a radial arm saw, hand held router, over arm router and a table saw. Table saw for me works best for dados.

I've been doing them on the table saw. I have a radial arm saw, but its not fully functional.

I just saw that video and thought it was clever. I'm not terrific with my routers yet, so some practice wouldn't be bad for me.

I need to blow the cobwebs off the saw. I have some built ins to get done. The price of sanded plywood brought a tear to my eye.IMG_0210.jpg IMG_0463.jpg
