Different from state to state, call a lawyer is your best bet or talk to the service manager and not the mechanic

Doesn't look as straight forward as here in Washington State, but this is what you wanna look at.

    https://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/News/Consumer Briefs/new-car-lemon-law.pdf

Here is Washington it's spelled out extremely well what constitutes a lemon. My sister's Raptor ended up JUST under the days out of service that qualified it as a lemon, and she was denied on original complaint, but within the week her truck went back in and pushed it over, lol. Ford bought it back.

*Most* states, a lawyer is a complete waste since the requirements are cut and dry. Check box A, Check box B, Check box C, it's a lemon. There is no ambiguity.

What year Sorento and does it have the ThetaII engine? Certain years fall into the below and you might just have to grind your way through the process to get the engine replaced. Had 2 Hyundai's with this POS engine so I'm familiar with the early issues and somewhat on the process.

Are they saying that it's part of like a break in period? and after 20k miles it won't burn oil anymore, or are they saying that's normal forever?

I just realized you said this rig was bought used. Lemon is off the table. It is only on new cars, original delivery.

I am thinking to go KIA corporate then, engine takes like 5Q total, how the hell burning 1Q every 1K miles is normal, and service manual is 7.5K miles.

and the " Mechanic left for the day " after lady walked in, came out 10 minutes after, prob trying to get the loser mechanic out to explain wtf he just wrote.

Quick search and this is an extremely common problem, which is why Kia put out this specific service bulletin saying it's fine for it to burn up to a quart every 1000 miles. Doubt KIA will do anything for you. Better stock up on oil and keep adding it.

I will try KIA corporate still, since we are still paying for the car. My rusted 2001 540K 4runner wasn't burning any oil, this is embarrassing , I guess now I know to just keep choosing Toyota over any Korean automaker.

We only went once, they put it on test, and we left, drove it 1k miles as told and brought it back. They said its totally normal for this small potato car with 4cyl to burn 1Q per 1K miles even ifs oil capacity is 5Q. I can't find this " normal " in manual, so I am going to contact KIA and lets see what they say. How is this even legal for car manufacturer, there's noway.

Keep bringing it back until its fixed. 1qt per 1k miles is absurd by any standard

This link appears to be the entirety of the document you posted the picture of. Sounds like nothing you can really do. Hasn't got to the point of a recall, only a service bulletin. I guess you could do the test, and drive the livin crap outta the rig and see if you could burn more oil? lol. I see they put a tamper resistant thing on the drain/fill plugs so you can take any oil out to falsify the test.

Wow, this is crazy. We have warranty for 20K more miles, I guess we want to push it to limit where it starts consuming more than 1Q in less than 1K miles to have engine replaced? how is this even legal lol, such a tiny engine consuming this much

It's not up to the mechanic if your problem gets warrantied or not. Read the tsb.. He writes down mileage and approximate oil level, you drive it for 1,000 miles, bring it back then they see how much oil got consumed.

The more you call him names the more it reinforces the fact that you don't understand the process

Kia engines are notorious for burning oil. You should've done more research before buying
