On my old car with the Rexing I put the camera on a license plate frame and it would get hit directly by headlights at night and completely blind the camera.

With my truck its on my bumper at the moment, the glare isn't as nearly as bad as the car was, plus the WolfBox upgraded WDR camera is a huge improvement as well. Still wish it was a little higher to get further away from headlights, but top of my shell would be too high to be useful as a backup camera. No where else to put it that would keep it centered at the moment unfortunately.

Bed rack is probably a pretty good middle ground.

You may have to decide between seeing directly down/behind the truck for parking vs seeing farther down the road behind you on the street.
May not be an issue if you already have a dedicated backup camera though.

@shaggy135 I'll snag a couple pics when I get home. I have my rearview camera for the wolfbox mirror mounted high, up on my camper/3rd brake light for an overall/down the road view behind me + I have my factory backup camera relocated to my bumper and re-wired to display on my headunit when triggered by reverse signal. So, now I have a fulltime digital rear view/display to mimic the standard rearview mirror characteristics, plus a 2nd, better view for reverse. With both views being displayed at the same time on 2 different screens, it pretty much covers everything. The wolfbox also has its front facing built-in "dashcam" pointing forward.. and then I added another front facing camera to my bumper for a trail cam. So, 2 cameras facing forward (one in mirror, one in headunit) and 2 cameras facing backwards (one in mirror, one in headunit).

That sounds like a sweet setup. Much better than trying to force the WolfBox to be both a rearview mirror and backup camera like I am.

Is there a replacement rear camera that fits in the oem position? I got a new head unit and the resolution is potato.

Also I replaced my head unit because of the same flashing and intermittent Bluetooth connection. Flashing never came back.

the only other component of mine that seems to struggle with the heat is the radar for the cruise control. But that’s rare.

When I moved here from back east, I added window tint to the side/rear on my old car. at a place. The tint they applied never bubbled/peeled so I feel I can trust them.

Tomorrow at 2 PM my Tacoma will add 50% overall and a 5% "brow" to my windshield for $200. I need to pay with this archaic form of money called "cash" and some reference to a place not exactly "on the record". I will need to move my dashcam below the "brow", mounting it behind the rearview mirror, though.

He said if he replaces the windshield if it breaks then the re-tint is free.

Running a master Tailgater set up for mine mounted to my gfc. Full replacement mirror which was nice
@TailHook has same set up but at least initially ran his camera into the spare tire release hole in the bumper which would work if you don't have camper or bed rack to mount it high

Seeking guidance on tire damage. Have a few of these sidewall gouges on both front tires where rubber is gone and whatever the next layer is, is exposed. New tires are on the menu anyways but want to understand if this is a “replace before next big trip” situation, “replace before next trip to the grocery store,” or no big deal?

For context tires are ~3 years old and only have ~8k miles on them, but plenty of off-road use and truck gets parked outside in the sun.

Damn, what a sweet install...wonder who did that choice work :D

Still running my rearview camera in the spare tire hole, and it works perfect on and off road...needing my spare is a last resort, but the camera just rotates up out of the way if I do.

Not the greatest example since it's parked in the backyard right now.. but..

Wolfbox cam (display is adjustable Up/Down and set to JUST see the spare tire and JUST above the horizon/down the road)

I don't do strap-ons, so was happy to find a mirror replacement that actually works and has a vertical adjustment...bonus it has a forward facing dash cam, too

I was worried about that at first.. and told myself I'd just make a mount worst case, but it honestly hasn't bothered me or been noticeable once. I did like the fact it's not as intrusive if I didn't like it or it didn't work. It's been flawless since install and has a forward facing cam as well.. I just have my display on "rear- full" all the time.

It records both front and rear cameras 24/7 on a loop regardless if displayed or not in the mirror.

I relocated my NextBase 522 dashcam already ... middle of the windshield and mounted on the center pod with the TSS sensors. Will be below the 5% brow.

What is funny is that local police officers who must enforce laws come to this guy and pay for "modifications that never happened" on their vehicles.

That's exactly what I would have if I went that way. Have front and rear cameras already. Front on the grill, rear on my bumper. I got used to my tire on my swing out being in the way, ha. I might just have to go this route.

How many extension cables did you need for those rear cameras?

just the ones that came with them. One being included with the Wolfbox, one being included with the other camera. I can find out the lengths.. just need to look up my old orders.

I needed one short extension cable to get my camera (wired exactly as @TailHook above) to my digital rearview mirror. Rexing M2. Oh also, I have a DCLB.

I used the 50ft replacement cable.
The Wolfbox came with a 20ft cable, which was too short.
Mines on my swingout so it took some extra length to get the cable over to the hinge and then back down the swing arm to the center where I put the camera. Extra length comes in handy (;)) when hiding the cable in the cab as well.

I saw that it came with a 20' camera cable. Was wondering if that was enough. If yours in on your topper, then I should be good. That would be about where I'd want to mount it on my bed rack.

Well, it doesn't help when Wolfbox is having a summer sale, ha. Just ordered the G900. Going to give that one a go.
