I don't have the size I want and won't for a good minute but I'm thinking after I upgrade my welding area, I'll look into making my own brake for 30 tons or so.

    Something between 24" to 30".

The one thing that escapes me is wondering why out of the many DIY or premade setups, none of them are made in a way to accept American tooling.

It would be easy to create a clamp bar for the 1/2" tang American punches use. And for most of your work you can use a 4 way bottom die.

Back to your brake question though, I do have a miniature one utilizing a 30 degree punch and 4 way bottom die. And in case you forget that your opening must be 8 times larger than your material width, mine is labeled

    20240713_133216.jpg

I do have an air over hydraulic jack on it though making quick work of my bends. For shallow stuff, I'll pump it manually.

    20240730_125538.jpg

And even though Fusion does the work for me to flat pattern my 3D modeled flanges, knowing the basics that press operators must know is just good knowledge to have.

I do have the heavy duty, finger brake kit from Swag, but it's only 19" wide and suffers badly from that wide die opening like you mentioned.

Here's the small 10" setup at work -

    https://youtu.be/aCBkTi2Utg8?si=A6caqxFO9mWj_DpB

And here is the result of 3/16" bent to a 90.

    20240730_144502.jpg

No distortion at all and that leg is about 1" long.

    20240728_111213.jpg

I can make it as short as 0.75" long and it'll still give me my bend.

The group I travel with are extremely sensitive and thoughtful to preserving the environment and to show proper trail etiquette. No driving on the tundra. Yielding to on coming traffic when we can see people coming up on one lane roads. Using proper hand signals. On my first day, I could tell there were a bunch of people in rented OHVs what didn't know hand signals or proper trail etiquette. We can spot the out of towners.

I was with a group of 3 to 4 seasoned off-roaders from out west. Smaller groups are better.

I stayed away from Bear Pass and Imogene this year. Way too crowded. I've done them enough for a lifetime. I enjoyed a solo trip to Spencer Gulch.

Hmm, using my old skullcandy bt earbuds at work to listen to audiobooks... using them as headphones makes everything echoey... but using them as a headset (for conversations) makes it crystal clear

I keep forgetting to use my earphones

Got some nice ones for when I worked at my first fab job, and they've been benched ever since

Working in the garage now but got tunes playing on the soundbar - I need to go back to TIG and just sit back in the stool to weld

I had to start using BT earbuds at work, I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts when I'm editing...turns out having some detective go over details out loud of a grisly murder scene or sexual assault is a little off-putting to co-workers that walk into the studio

I listen to audiobooks all day to make the time fly. Easy to burn a few hrs when you've got a book going. I stick to books I've read before at work though so I can think more about work than the story without missing details.

I should give audio books a try, never have. I used to scoff at the idea of podcasts too until I finally realized I was getting burnt out on all of my favorite music and that was making me depressed lol.

Any true crime or interesting history is my jam, I did buy the House of the Dragon audiobooks awhile back but haven't listened to them yet. Got them back when season 1 ended and I didn't want to wait 2 years to find out what happened next. Maybe I'll give them a go once season 2 on tv ends after this weekend

Audiobooks are a great idea. Killing 3 hours and you don't even realize it.
I listen to a lot of hockey podcast and history podcast. Things you don't have to pay attention to.

What's your favorite history ones? I really like American Scandal by Wondery, probably my favorite. He also does one called American History Storytellers which is also really good.

Noiser just put out a multi-episode podcast on the history of WWII D-Day I've really enjoyed

I like "It's history" on YouTube music. It more about locations and how they became what they are. Not really scandalous at all.
I'll have to check those 2 out.

Damn that's a pretty good price. People are still trying to get 3k for that here.

Prison dogs were all out today, those guys are doing a good job of training them up. Can't fathom why anyone gave up the huge happy go lucky St. Bernard, but she seems happier than most to be in prison.

And in random complaints, a government agency dropped the ball on a basic task to no ones surprise. Could physically install network switches but couldn't configure them I guess.
