Despite existing threads related to 3rd gen suspension on 2nd gens, I have been having a heck of a time trying to find a definitive answer to my issue, so I am hoping that someone can help clear this up for me. Or at least, point me in the right direction. Admittedly, I’m still getting up to speed on suspension details.

I recently picked up some take-off yellow and blue bilsteins from a 2023 TRD Pro to replace my worn out front and rear shocks (the black ones) on my 2014 sr5 with 150k. Since I need to cut out and replace my cam bolts and lca assembly, I was hoping to tackle my tired suspension at the same time. Unfortunately, these didn’t come with the coil overs and I haven't been able to find any second hand that are near by.

My question is, will my stock 2014 coil overs be okay installed with the Bilstein 2023 OR shocks? If not, can anyone recommend an affordable set of coils that would work well with this setup? I know the 2nd and 3rd gen coils are rated for different weights/spring rates, but I don’t really understand how big of a deal this is.

if I go with my stock coils, will the ride improve but my lift stay unchanged, or increase slightly?

-look at factory replacement springs for that model new or used
-see if anything is compatible. Might not be. Even OME I think might not play so well with 5100 that Is adjustable
-could be left with trial and error. Trying out see how it goes. Physically it’ll probably fit. Then you’ll see how it rides and sits.

These aren't 5100 Bilsteins. They are the ones that come stock on the 2023 TRD OR. Does this make a difference?

Hey. I am having the same issue. I purchased those same shocks that were takeoffs from a 2023 TRD OR with less than 40 miles on them to put on my 2014 TRD Sport with a tow package. I'm having trouble finding coilovers for these as well. I found them on the Toyota parts website, but I was trying to find a less expensive alternative. I've called multiple companies, and they are all stumped. I spoke with a rep from Bilstein, and they said that they just private label those shocks for Toyota and don't supply any parts for them. He suggested calling Summit, and they were unable to find a coilover or specs on one. Have you had any luck?

I ended up finding someone that was willing to ship me nearly new third gen coils for cheap on FB marketplace. $130 CAD +$40 shipping. In the end, this lifted my front up and levelled my truck. I wanted to get the rake back as it was going negative when I had the truck loaded for camping, so I just bit the bullet and replaced my leaf springs with a medium duty leaf pack which lifted the backend 2 1/4”, and that should settle a bit. I spent more than I wanted to in the end because of leaf springs ($750 CAD) and the fact that I didn’t anticipate replacing the top hats, but I am really happy with the result. I feel like the ride has improved significantly, even with the firmer spring rate on the 3rd gen coils, but now that I have the new coils and leaf springs, I will probably just go ahead and upgrade to the 5100s in a year or so.

I had this Same issue, I got 22 OR takeoffs (with the oem coils) and I put them on my 14 and the ride was HARD so I put some OME 884 coils and it got a big better but not by much, now I'm buying 4600 for the front but still not sure what coil set to use since I don't have my originals anymore

I recently put a full set of 23 OR shocks/coils on my 13 prerunner. I shopped until I found a complete set so I would not have to deal with compressing the coils onto the shocks.

Remember that the front shocks/coils come from the factory marked with a dot for left & right install. The front left is a bit stiffer so the truck will not lean from driver & battery weight.

The stock coils can be installed on the "new" shocks. If you put 3rd Gen coils on it will lift the front of a 2nd Gen a little bit. You keep saying "coil overs" and that may be part of why you're having trouble finding anything. They're coil springs.
