$2550 off SRP. Best I'd seen on a long box in the midwest so I jumped on it.

    Long beds are 8'.

If it won't fit in a 5' bed another foot won't help. I don't have any trouble hauling 12" lumber in my 5' bed. Next size up is 16' and a 6' bed won't carry it either. I've owned 5' or 5.5' bed trucks since 2002. Still haven't found it to be a handicap. I'd rather have the shorter wheelbase.

A Tacoma DC with a 6' bed is the same overall length as an 8' regular cab 1/2 ton, a 6.5' extended cab 1/2 ton, or a 5.5' crew cab 1/2 ton. If you really think 5' is a handicap buy a 1/2 ton. Same length, more interior cab space and you not only get a longer bed, but a deeper and wider bed, more payload, towing capacity, same fuel mileage and less cost.

Is lumber the only thing you can haul in a pickup? I haul soil amendments in my 4 cyl, 2wd, 6' bed Tacoma that gets 27 mpg highway. A 1' shorter bed reduces the volume I can carry by more than 20%. I don't need to haul children around, I don't need a back seat, and I don't need more towing capacity.

And a 1/2 ton would give me almost the same volume carrying capacity with much lower mpg.

Not bad at all given the circumstances.

That extra 13" can make all the difference in the world depending on how you use your truck (thinking outdoorsman stuff mostly). Regarding size, the DCLB Tacoma is still 7" shorter than a double-cab tundra with the 6.5" bed, and a helluva lot narrower. Turning radius notwithstanding, the DCLB offers the most utility and bang for the buck, IMO.

Why not just say you prefer the shorter wheelbase instead of shitting all over 6' beds?

Exactly, my view too - building out a sleeping option in the bed for us sub-six footers, etc.

I get bored and I'm not fiscally responsible so in the last 10years, for trucks, I've owned TRD Pro Tundra, TRD Pro Tacoma, two Raptors, Colorado ZR2, Gladiator Mohave, two Ram Limiteds. Before that, I had a 2011 TRD OR access cab w/ 6' bed. Now I've come almost full circle agreeing that the TRD OR DCLB is the best bang for the buck platform for hunting, fishing, camping. The tiny fuel tank (and turning radius) is my main gripe.

If it weren't for the 6' bed, it'd have been tough not to get a Ranger Raptor or even something weird like the Ineos Quartermaster for the fun factor.

I went from a '19 ORLB in magnetic gray to the '24 ORLB in Blue Crush. I will say my '19 was very capable in every way but, the '24 is head and shoulders above it in every way. Only downside I have found is the aftermarket market is still very small which is to be expected.

That's ridiculous. The midsized truck bed means that additional real estate is even more valuable. Every time I max out my 6' bed on a road trip, I'm so damned grateful I have it. Not even an argument to me.

You think everyone is a carpenter and only hauls lumber?

I can’t sleep 2 people on a double wide exped mattress in a 5’ bed. Hell I can’t even sleep by myself in an 5’ bed unless it’s diagonal and the mattress would be bent all weird. And my 29 mountain bike isn’t going to fit under the camper shell in a 5’ bed.

I’m in the middle of a two week mountain bike trip and living in the truck while I travel. That ain’t happening in a 5’ bed. And my kids nor my fridge and gear aren’t fitting in an access cab. And a full size with a bigger bed isn’t fitting in my garage. This is the best set up for me, all things considered.

I currently own both a 6’ and a 5’ Tacoma. The 6’ is far superior for my needs. Turning radius? Who cares? You might actually have to drive it like a truck but it’s not an issue at all. Swing wide when you park or back in. If I wanted to run tight off-road trails I wouldn’t be in a Tacoma at all.
