I've ran a few sets of the Michelin Defender LTX MS/2 including whatever Costco's version of them are called. They're fine for pavement pounding, but boring yes. Mine would always dry rot quickly and I had one peel apart on the freeway. o_O BFG/Michelin are the same company. I've heard about the limited traction of K02's in the rain. Perhaps the K03's have improved a little. Definitely a good looking tire.

No complaints with the Toyo AT3's other than tread life. Overall, probably one of the better choices available.

I had REALLY good luck with the Duratracs on my old Tacoma. Just haven't done a lift on this one yet so wasn't looking for QUITE so beefy.

Discount called Falken for me and tried pretty hard to help out but Falken wouldn't budge. Discount offered my $35 per tire as goodwill, but that's not the same as honoring the warranty ($75 per tire or so).

I'm really interested in these tires. Wish they came in a 265/75...

I like the Toyos (ATIII), I’ve had a handful of sets of them across my Jeep and truck. The only complaint I have with them is that the SLs do wear pretty quick, but like Bishop said, it’s kind of a trait of winter rated ATs. Soft rubber is sticky and works well but doesn’t last as long. LTs can help with that but at the cost of more weight, higher purchase price, and they like to slide in the wet more quickly.

I'm tempted to go to Costco instead of Discount Tire because of my experience with Costco customer service. I feel like they would have taken care of this issue for me where Discount didn't...

I sell a decent amount of tires and I will say the Goodyears coming out of the Canadian tire plants are really good quality. They balance well, which (in my lifetime of experience) is not typical of the brand.
I typically do not recommend Good Year but the Dura Trac and Ultra Terrain are hard to beat.

I really appreciate this advice. Have you had any issues with the Ultra Terrain wearing quickly? Maybe I'm placing too much emphasis on the lack of warranty. Torn between the UltraTerrain in 265/75 and the Duratrac RT in 265/70...

The duratracs on my 4runner are loud but the best tire for the snow/winter time in Denver!

I'd say if you plan on driving heavy snow go duratrac otherwise try the ultra terrain.

Like I mentioned earlier, one winter with the Ultra Terrain (about 5500 highway miles) and the wore 1/32”. They had 16/32 new, when I saw them I was like “wow”. They need rotation every 5k in my opinion, like most others.
I have not seen anyone bitching about DuraTracs….seems like everyone who has them loves them.

Thanks again, you've definitely helped me narrow it down to one of those two options.

I think the DuraTrac might be a bit better off road, just speculation.
I paid 640 dollars for four ultra terrains on a Labor Day sale from Discount, but discount is now the Tire Rack and the TR doesn’t sell them.

Duratracs are probably pretty good with the new version but I would expect them to wear out somewhat quickly like the old ones, probably 35-40K. Better than the Falken or SL Toyos I guess.

They will probably be noisy like typical Duratracs.

I just swapped out the GY Ultra Terrain’s with 7-8/32nds still on them, and with over 61 thousand miles as well (still had life and aways to go). 4 tire Rotation every 5k miles. Damn good tire for what they are worth. That said, They were 95% on the road miles. The only reason I didn’t replace with the same is… I like trying different tires.

Currently have the Falken AT/4’s for a couple weeks. It is way to early to tell what I think of them.

The best tire I had in the last 9-10 years were the Cooper STT Pro. Those were on the jeep. and when I finally changed them out, I had 63 thousand miles on them (still with life in them). Again, 5k mile rotations, but the added 5 tire rotation. They did get loud as they wore though.

Tires are a wear item. Some last forever and some don’t. Also depends on their use too.

Wow, that’s impressive. I’ve heard of people getting 60,000 on them but I’m very pessimistic when it comes to tread wear. I’m thinking 50 on my set at the rate they’re going.

Tires cost pennies per mile when you think about it, it’s just the upfront cost of them that can be the shocker. Also the perception of use to actual use.

Now…. If I could get a warranty on me liking my job. That would have been a total fail.

This was my experience as well. Got about 32k out of my AT3W's and Discount Tire gave me the prorated price on my AT4W's before even filing a claim with Falken.

My AT3W's were SL rated, though, so I started at only 13/32" tread. Getting close to 35-40k miles seems about right. Hoping my new C rated tires with 17/32" get me closer to 55-60k. Assuming I get the same tread wear of 1/32" every ~4.5k miles.

Good to know. Maybe I should head back to Discount. They were busy today so maybe that contributed as well. They usually take great care of me and I've bought over 20 sets of tires from them.

Interesting. Did you by them @Discount Tire ? Those guys usually get warranties pushed through. They warrantied some coopers that dry rotted for me.

    People claim Falken’s are good.
