experience w/REDARC Smart Battery Monitor in engine bay?

I would like to mount the REDARC Smart Battery Monitor high up in the engine bay. I understand that the instructions say that you shouldn't, BUT I was wondering if anyone has any experience doing this long term anyway?

I was thinking of getting large 3in shrink tubing to seal the unit and wiring in before mounting, but still not sure if it will withstand the heat.

Any feedback?

 

it can withstand the heat-- the vehicle interior isn't going to be much different parked in the sun all day.

but i don't think any amount of dielectric grease, heat shrink tubing, adhesive-lined or not, is going to be enough to seal up all the different ports on it that aren't rated for any water ingress at all. also, there's a button on the top, as well as a light, that likely requires access-- sometimes heat shrink, well, shrinking, will press down on buttons like that, creating many more issues.

i think it's a bad idea to mount a module like that within the engine bay.

 

Thanks for the input. I was thinking of maybe mounting a small pelican case to house it in, then sealing up the wire holes with silicone...

 

that would work, but seems like far more effort than routing it into the cabin?
