The install looks perfect! The MX4 looks amazing on your Tacoma! How would you rate your installation process?

I would say it was pretty easy, the only thing was the front clamp is located in the same place as the cover clamp, so I had to move it to another spot. I like the low-profile look I'm glad I went with it.

Don’t you think it’s going to leak at the bed front corners where it doesn’t cover gasket? Can you see daylight from inside at those corners?

I dont see daylight but there are definitely small gaps on those corners. I have been through rain driving and it sitting in driveway with very little water getting in. Some extra gasket sealer would prob fix that up. I am prob in the minority that a little water isn't a big deal for me. I mostly pack stuff for trips that can be outside - coolers etc. For me it's just having the cargo out of sight when I stop somewhere.

My bak flip mx4 on 2024 Tacoma had a lot of water in the bed after a small rain. I guess I just thought for that kinda money it would be better. Could have bought a lot of other brands for half price and got that. And yes I have installed plenty of them. Got tools and parts in mine that can’t get wet.

I have the Toyota oem cover. No issues, it fits perfect, no leaks, the power tailgate works with no issues. I don't know if it costs more than others or not. I'm happy regardless.

I was the same way. Read all kinds of install and leak issues with the backflip. I went OE. I also can’t get wet as I have a printer in the back for work. 2 down pours and 2 auto car washes and I literally get nothing in the back. Very happy. Easy install and power tail gate works proper. All my local dealers would not deal off MSRP and shipping was a fortune from even the places that did discount it so I paid OTD just under $1200. I am completely happy.

Ordered the Extang Trifecta 2.0 Signature from RealTruck @Santana@Realtruck and got a cover in a box with no padding or protection all beat up with the parts in a zip lock sandwich bag....... I tried to test fit it but it's not possible to make the front and rear seals cover the front and tailgate at the same time so I'm not even sure if this is the right cover even though it says it is on the box. Going to go with Lomax or try Rough Country next.

Truxedo Truxport. Inexpensive, quick install. I expect to leak just a little (I had one on another truck)…or maybe not at all. It can take at least a foot of snow too. I usually keep everything in bins so this is perfect for me.

Was the fit good? Flap much on the hwy? I had one of those on my 21 Tundra and it also held a foot of snow, never did leak. It sure liked to flap in the hwy wind tho.

I had one on a Ranger for 3 years…never any highway issues. Fit is excellent on the Taco, I’m expecting it to stay rock solid on the highway. It’s well worth the ~$350.

Tuxedo Truxport (for the 4th gen specific) on my offroad. Cheap, easy, and no leaks so far.

Why bother with a soft cover? A decent knife makes short order of it.

Yes…not knife proof. But if someone cuts it with a knife they’re still going to have hard time lifting large bins out between the hard struts. Also, weatherproof, no need to tie or strap cargo, a surface to put stuff on (when not moving)…etc.

It all depends on your need :)

This is true... but then again a large flat head screwdriver or a crow bar makes quick work of a hard cover or cab window..

I've watched and prepared for law enforcement or courts a lot of video from our chain of grocery stores, and have watched a lot of security video shared in a store area and police charing group. That's made it really clear to me if someone wants something they will get it fast. That can be locked cars with alarm systems.

So far I'm really happy with choosing the Fas-Top all in one or combo tonneau and soft topper. It might not be right for some of the perfectionist types here but is really sweet for the extremely varied use I have. I posted pics and a mini review in the forum here.

As time passes I'm also staying soft on my idea of a tent/wedge topper. By the time I'd get it suitable for waking up in ski area lots or winter, that expenditure would get me a whole lot of modest hotels for far easier sanitation and contact lens mgmt.

    :)
