Here too! We stopped by Subway a while back and the door was locked. Went to another one and mentioned it and they said all 4 employees just walked out.

Just stumbled upon this thread. It brings back very fond memories of my Grandfather. He was a machinist at Lockheed Martin. Worked on Space Shuttles and SR-71 Blackbirds. In his spare time, he built scale models of Trolley cars. I'd estimate the scale to be 1/10th but, it was all his own creation from scratch. He'd build the bodies, or cars, with old wooden cheese boxes. All of the metal parts and electrical circuits were made by hand. He'd use ball point pen springs and all sorts of scrap parts from anywhere and create these works of art. The only part that was "bought" (salvaged) was a broken speed controller from a Lionel Train Set. He built round houses, tracks, bridges, all of it to scale from bits and pieces. He even made the local paper in Palo Alto, Ca. Great memories. Thanks for the flash back to a better time.:(

I've been watching the FL weather forecast as I was planning on heading there for a few days. Going to back track a bit into the NC mountains and see what happens after Sunday. Hopefully it passes quickly. :fingerscrossed::rain:

Few tips- definitely don't go to Tampa, they will be underwater with 3/4" of an inch in an hour. Everywhere else people are like oh a named storm? That's cute, most summer Thunderstorms are worse than these named storms that weather channel breaks down 24/7. We ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, yet.

Thanks! That was the impression I got from reddit. The locals didn't seemed swayed too much by the news. Tampa and Orlando are of interest. Tampa more so.

AZ gets some pretty good monsoon summer storms, but it's mostly wind damage and not a ton of water.

For now, Beech Mountain, NC is the plan until Sunday.

Orlando is so spread out it drains pretty well, but I'm sure there will be people from the coast trying to book hotels inland. Tampa is so congested and low lying they don't have a chance.

Watch, if we get lots of rain, Tampa will be the first place the weather channel shows. Because, after all, weather channel needs ratings too. Panic!!11

I suppose now that's it's after 2:00 I should probably think about getting something constructive done today. Been sitting around doing a whole pile of nothing while the other 3 adults in the house are all at work.

Respect to you Southern folks  I don't know how y'all cope...

It was so miserable humid today I got in the truck (with air conditioner) and hit the road for a little recreational driving.

Stopped and took some photos of this neat old sign along the way.

    KIMG4241.jpg

It has been there for many decades - I remember the neon working many years ago.

    KIMG4243.jpg

Some of the tubing still clings tenaciously to the sign, never to glow again.

    KIMG4245.jpg

The property was a trailer coach & used car dealer for years.

    KIMG4248.jpg

    KIMG4249.jpg

Fittingly the owner lived in a coach at the back of the property, notice it is a rare 2 story model.

    KIMG4247.jpg

Sorry the photos aren't so good, I didn't want to trespass.

Notice the garage (that is blocking the view) is also manufactured - see the taillights?
    KIMG4250.jpg

It would be nice if the sign & coach go to a collector rather than a scrapper.

Just me, but I’d pick mountains over the beach any day, but that seafood though!
