Bikes and bees are bad enuff - but my friends and I used to zip along a couple of county roads in Illinois (circa 1972) and visit a closed open pit coal mine area. These were dirt bikes - not fitted with windshields and only enough of a headlight to satisfy the law. In late summer when weeds had grown right up to the edges of the road - you had to ride right down the center of the narrow blacktop, to avoid birds bursting out and giving you a nasty whack. Ducking to take them on the helmet was about the only defensive move possible - I do not have the reflexes to do this today.

All you guys waxing nostalgic has me remembering... Dragging State Street, lots of convertibles. GTOs, Caddies, Stangs, a 240Z, '55 and '57 Chevies, a '55 Chevy truck and an early sixties Dodge p'up. A mid '50s Desoto with a cross ram hemi and a 70ish convertible challenger. Races stop light to stop light, and freeway, and canyon. Learning to drift. And the girls, OMG... Spotlighting rabbits in the desert and shooting the Jeep. Riding horses in the big city to meet girls. Going to the city dump to shoot rats. Fishing the canyon creeks. Skiing, keggers, getting stopped by the cops in the rain with the top down on the Caddy and the driver/owner not being able to prove he owned it. People in fights and accidents and too drunk to function, and dragging them out to bring them back to life. Reckless driving, failure to stop at the command of an officer, exhibition acceleration... and talking the judges out of heavy fines. Road trips too many to count from LA to NYC to Seattle. Jeezus... I could go on.

When I was a young man.....

Riding along in Minot N.D. on my Yamaha 250 Catalina. Bare chested, as it was a hot summer afternoon. I felt something strike my chest. I looked down to watch helplessly as a hornet angrily poked me three times. caught in the press of the wind as it was.

    Damn! that hurt!

Good morning and happy Friday to all. :pccoffee:

Not me but a good friend of mine years back. He was riding to work on a moderately nice morning, leather jacket on but unzipped about halfway. Felt something hit him in the chest said it had a bit of mass behind it, stung a little but not awful. Couple minutes pass by and suddenly he's getting repeatedly hit in the chest, hurts like crazy. Managed to pull over and get stopped, hops off the bike and unzips his leather jacket the rest of the way and as soon as he does a small bird flies out. It must have struck him in the chest then got caught in the partially zipped jacket where it was dazed. When it came around it started pecking him him trying to escape. Said he had about a dozen slightly bloodied spots all over his shirt.

Wish you guys would stop scaring me with hornet sting stories! I am highly allergic to them! Almost died once. Too cheap to pay $1,000 every three years for an Epi pen! Ridiculous!

Another hot dry day. Closest fire is now 30% contained on our end of the fire! Go firefighters! You’re doing great! Another week of hot dry days, then hopefully the monsoons and back to low 80s…normal.

Got up at 4:00 to see the granddaughter off with her BF and his family. Heading for Lake Powell for a week of houseboat playing.

Kettlebell day! Too much smoke still to be outside, so man cave day in the cool of the basement.

Make this your best day yet by doing something you enjoy!

I did not know about AMAC and never joined AARP for various reasons. I looked it up and I am going to give it a try for a year. Thanks.

    Morning all:

I've been stung only 3 times in my life, twice by wasps, and once by something that flew up off the ground. Been lucky, maybe 4 or 5 times at the house, while mowing or string trimming, I saw yellow jackets swarming after I disturbed their nesting area, luckily they never came after me, that would be bad!
BTW, those wasp stings really hurt!
When at work I had an open can of soda sitting there, took a sip and felt something in my mouth which I instinctively and immediately spit out, it was a yellow jacket that had crawled into the can, I don't even want to think about what it would have been like if it had stung me inside my mouth, got really lucky on that one!

Sounds like we have a lot in common Travlr!

Just not my week. Started feeling ill on Monday, thought it was a lousy cold. Tested myself yesterday, positive for Covid. Not a severe case, no fever, no lung congestion or shortness of breath. Just feel crappy and tired. I had Covid in 2022, same thing a week or so of fatigue and feeling crappy. I hate being sick. I don’t dare go anywhere because I don’t want to spread this to anyone else. Even though the current variants aren’t as serious as previous strains it can still be deadly to people who are elderly, people with compromised immune systems, people with lung disease and heart disease and various other impairments. So I guess I’ll just sit here and whine and complain and have a little pity party. My wife says I’m a lousy patient and a whimp when I’m sick. I think she may be right on that.
