New tire, safe to run with my nearly worn out tires?

I'm about ready for new tires and have been doing my research.
That said I ran over an object in the road and had to buy another tire. Spare says temporary use only.
The tire I bought is the same brand but has lots more thread as it is new.
Now I'm starting to worry if this will cause damage due to the larger diameter of the new tire.
am I safe to run on it until I decide what new tires to buy?

I’d run it while whatever else is on order personally.

Simple, put it on the front axle and don't engage 4WD until you replace all four tires. Problem solved.

You shouldn't run into much issue only issue I had was that it pulled in the direction of the new tire. I thought it was an alignment issue at first

Yes, this needs to be restated firmly. A difference in wheel diameter from front to back will lock up your 4wd for sure.

Isn't the spare a full size?

You have a TRD OR and the spare says temporary use only? Aside from the absence of a TPMS sensor, that spare tire should be the same model as the other four.

But yes it's safe to run a new tire mixed with three worn ones. There's less difference in new vs old tread depth than in sidewall compression from the different weights front and rear.

When you buy new tires consider getting 5 of the the same and using the spare in your tire rotations. Eliminates that problem if you lose one plus you get about 20% more miles out of a set.

Get rid of the piece of shit temporary spare tire and replace it with the new tire you recently bought. Then buy a set of 4 new tires to replace the the old worn ones.
    Problem solved. Simple, easy peasy

Let me share my Costco tire story. About 15 years ago I had Bridgestone tires on a RAV4. Got a nail near the outer edge of the tread, Costco said it was too close to the sidewall wall to patch. Costco also told me at that time they were not currently carrying Bridgestone. The Costco tire guy said he would “road-hazard” the tire with the nail and refund me on the other 3 good Bridgestone tires which had 50% tread left. Four new BF Goodrich tires cost me about $80 dollars. This is why I buy all my tires from Costco.

I’m a Costco member and shop there all the time. I’ve never bought tires there cause they don’t carry the brand I like, I wish they did. But the most incredible thing about buying tires there is that all the tires they sell have a 5 year road hazard warranty. You screw up one of their tires they will repair it or replace if bought within 5 years. And they have incredibly good prices on their tires.

I've heard (if one tire has more tread) a wear pattern issue can develop on the gears if placed on the rear axle. You should be fine temporarily though. The issue with the full size spare listed as temp use only, has to do with the lug nut style and the spare rim. The lugs will have a tendency to losen over time if installed for full time use.

There was a thread somewhere explaining the different lug nut type needed if one wanted to use the spare wheel full time. See here...

The only time this is a concern is on All Wheel Drive vehicles and 4WD vehicles when in 4WD. Generally tire shops will not replace a tire on these vehicles if there is more than 3/32 between a new tire and the tires on the vehicle.
Bottom line is if you need new tires just get the damn things, a set of 4. Stop trying to overthink this . Your life and others lives depend on your tires. Get a new set of 4 today and move the newest and best current tire to the spare. Get rid of that temporary piece of shit tire. Enough said.

Interesting news there. I thought being a full-size spare made it "not temporary" like the doughnuts (if even doughnuts) in passenger vehicles. How safe is just buying lugs designed for the spare rim? Or is the steelie-spare rim just not up to full-time load? I am considering buying a basic-but-full-time rim for the spare from Discount.

Discount Tire and most any other tire shop offers that unpleasant-but-works 90-day financing to help if the OP just needed a couple more months to save up.
