80W-90??

So I've read over and over and over regarding the gear oil weights for the front, rear and transfercase on a 2004 3.4 Double cab Auto.
So I live in a territory that gets maybe 30° in the colder months and 105° here in the summer. With that being said, should I just stick with 80w-90 in the rear and transfercase and then

It just seems like everyone posts their own preferences. I don't happen to a owners manual. And can't seem to find one online.

 

Dont know on the front.....but this comes up often for recommendation for rear 3rd

75w-90 for all 3 will be fine.

 

@OP I live in similar weather to you and use this (see pic). 75w90 in both front and rear with no issues. And I abuse my truck even in 115 degree weather.

For the transfercase, buy Redline MT90 in GL4, or really any GL4 fluid, I just use Redline MT90.

 

Awesome to hear. I have an automatic, so I'll just be using the Type T-IV atf. But this is good to hear as far as the diff gear oil goes.

 

Now how about fluid capacity?
I heard a total of 5.5 pints for the rear and 2.5 pints for the front? Which should be ~4 quarts?

 

I have always run RedLine, but these days everything is pretty good, but check RedLine's site for weights and capacity. Good resource even if you buy something else.

Oh, that's a hell of a buy, I will keep an eye out. I am lucky...I bought a bunch of RedLine gear oil over a decade ago for some of my go fast cars and I still have some. The price tags on them is heartbreaking.

 

you know that oil geek recommends not using past 3yr stuff...

the additives fall out and adhere/bond to the bottom

and storing in temp controlled area....


always thought oil was just oil........but that's just the base

I was talking about using Redline MT90 on the transfercase, not the transmission.

 

Last I checked Walmart sold the Valvoline baggies for ~$10 each.

I remember about 20 years ago when they were selling Mobile One that wasn't exactly the good one. Not saying this is the same, but I watch the details when I get a crazy deal from Walmart.

 

I've been abusing it for a few years so I think it's fine. Lol

 

Oh I am sure. I am just saying that sometimes ya gotta watch the Walmart deals. Maybe less today but it's certainly still a thing with their electronics.
