Just import the Land Cruiser 79 and call it a Tacoma 79, I won't say anything

Toyota sold 18,500 Tacomas in July. I wouldn’t call that zero sales.

Funny thing is the largest dealer in TN can't seems to get any off road premiums in. They have 2 in build phase/transit but none in allocation after that. Hoping that changes in a few days.

Who is the Solar Octane Taco owner from Nevada running around Smyrna TN?

That may be, but the dealers around here are going to have no choice but to close the upstream pipeline valve soon. Their shelves are full.

I don't know where you're at, but in Idaho/Montana, they sit on the lot for 2-3 weeks, and they're gone. It's been that way since day 1.

My local dealership has 10-12 Tacomas on the lot at most times. However, they are almost always SR5s. The other trims tickle in 1 at a time and don't last long at all.

Hold onto those 2nd/3rd gens. Fourth gen prices are ticking down and interests rates will too by the end of the year. By changing my pads/rotors and shocks this month I'm committing to at least another three years with this baby.

Mine has over 50 SR5s and only 1 TRD OR and 1 Limited, they’re having some kind of issues getting the higher trims built at any kind of volume.

I'm impressed with the 2025 Maverick. The Tremor trim looks good and for the Lobo they made a one-off 7-speed trans (8-spd minus one gear because the shifts were too close at high rpm). Where is Toyota's answer to this?

The Maverick has decimated ranger sales.

The same would happen to Tacomas if Toyota built a Maverick competitor. Can’t have that happening.

And now the hybrid has an AWD option. Tempting little package. I'd go Lariat/hybrid/AWD with blackout and few upgrades for...about 40K. Has a 4K tow rating which would likely be good enough for my fishing boat.

My thought process was the reason Toyota bumped the Tacoma upscale was also to create room for a lower priced unibody compact truck.

I'd like to know that too.

I'm not as in love with the new Taco as I imagined and a Maverick would suit about 90% of my needs just fine, but I'd kill for Toyota to have an option here.

AWD, Hybrid, 4k towing, 40 MPG in town is a good combination.

Also, Maverick payload is about 20% higher than typical 4th gen Taco and 40-50% higher than my 3rd gen.

Just give me a Stout that is close to a Maverick, but not built by Ford.

Yup 30k compact 40k midsize 50k 1/2 ton starting price seems to be the trend that Ford is starting so that’s definitely a possibility that Toyota will do the same thing. I mean they trademarked the Stout name a few years ago which historically was a small truck (unlike the Maverick that was a car) so it’s probably coming but who knows when.

There’s quite a bit who hate how big midsize trucks have become. Most people that don’t need a fullsize would be perfectly content with a Maverick sized truck, the only issue is it was never an option until 2 years ago.

Test drove a new Land Cruiser today, that 8 speed is definitely not smooth! I haven’t driven a new Tacoma but went along for a test drive of one with a friend and I can say the Land Cruiser feels so much better built. I will say however that the 8 speed in the Taco felt smoother despite being the same transmission. Land Cruiser had 88 miles on it, I can’t remember what the Tacoma had on it.
