I just installed my new rock panels on my brand new truck. I was underneath and saw that there are no protector plates or covers or anything under there? Is that normal for a tacoma? Is something wrong?
The pic you're looking at is looking towards the front with the transmission totally exposed.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Unless you rock crawl, won’t make much difference.

My Tacoma has over 200 off road trips doing this. Has not been an issue. Same with my last few 4x4s that were all for off road purposes. Deactivated trails in BC are not known for their smoothness and I have never damaged the underside of my trucks.

Lots of dents and bangs and a hundred truck length scratches down the sides, but no real damage. Side note, the paint on my 2016 Tacoma has been amazing. Easy to hide most of the scratches with some cut polish and no loss of shine.

Take it slow and easy and you will be fine.

    Thanks all.
I don't plan to rock crawl in it, but I'm fixing to get some better tires and definitely take it on some high clearance 4WD roads!
Are there after market plates or something I can buy to protect that exposed transmission? Yikes!
I've transitioned from a Ford Ranger Sport which had covers and things over that stuff. This is wierd to me.
Hopefully my new Rock bars will hit first.

Here's what a stock OR looks like. You do have the "tin" front shields though, right?

its best to reply with the quote button...
if they bolt to the frame they are rock sliders...
if they bolt to the bottom of the cab they are steps....
were these a gift to you?
