Judas Prius got a screw in one of his tires. In the shoulder. Discount Tire won’t repair it.

So two new tires (one free under warranty) is a great start to the weekend.

Asked my daughter if she was concerned about the tropical storm/hurricane that's hitting Florida on Monday, she said she wasn't even aware of the storm until I mentioned it.

Typical Floridian. Also typical Floridian: “you call that a storm?” “Mandatory evacuation means I can stay, right?”

Since this thread is 50% Amazon stuff now, here's a fun one...

I bought a digital borescope/endoscope planning to peek inside my cylinders. For $25 it seemed like a worthwhile gamble.

This is the scope I bought: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4V5LWWL/r

It has 3500+ ratings averaging 4+ stars.

I didn't realize when I bought it that the scope requires an app to use.

The app has significantly less impressive ratings. Curious that all those people managed to use and like the scope without having the same feelings about the app required to use the scope...

I have a WiFi scope similar to that and same thing - it requires a really crappy app that probably scrapes my data off my phone... Probably a good reason to pull out the super old iPad mini and dedicate it to use with it.

I bought this one for $50. No app required and while it is far from the best picture quality it’s good enough to scope cylinders.

    @odomandr

I’m heading up to Fort Collins in about 30 mins.

I have no way of contacting you. Other than TW.

Let me know if you’re still down to meet.

He knows where I live, have him swing by. You'll need help with the UCA's, LCA's and coilovers.

    PTSD triggered for me.

The start of this debacle of a house project involves Xcel.

There is an easement on the north side of my house where all utilities are buried.

The house addition was being bumped out to this easement.

However in 2015 Xcel ran all new main lines in my neighborhood. At the time they got to my property I was traveling for work.

My girlfriend at the time was concerned about our pollinator gardens, we had just recently planted, being disrupted by the horizontal boring.

So she sent me a photo saying, “all good, untouched!”

But I noticed that the backfilled hole wasn’t in the easement and was actually in my property.

At the time is was no big deal although it was in the back of my mind knowing that there was a chance I’d do an addition in the future.

    Flash forward 5 years.

Initial meeting with the contractor when discussing excavation, etc I informed him of the main line being an issue. “Not a problem.”

Welp… they start excavating, hit the main line and knock out power to half my neighborhood. Emergency lineman crew comes out and switches the power to the other side of the loop between the two transformers. Fixes the line on my property and then switches the energy back to my line/loop.

But we have to wait for them to move the line to proceed.

Six weeks later…yes, six f’in weeks, Xcel comes out to move the main line. But they’re unwilling to do it the right way, eg horizontally bore again but this time in the easement.

So they half-ass a junction, try moving it off my property where excavation/foundation/footer is happening and call it good.

But they can’t move it far enough off my property.

So…after six weeks of waiting it took all but 20 mins for the excavator to hit the main line again. Knocking out power to half the neighborhood.

Emergency lineman come out again. They switch the power to the other side of the loop. Then say, “we’ll just keep it on that loop until you’re done, then come out and rebore it in the easement.”

Me: “so that was an option six weeks ago?”

    Them: “Yes.”

Me: “I know you’re not the one making these decisions in the office, so don’t take this personally, but if you can relay a message to them for me I’d appreciate it, ‘why the fuck didn’t you think of this six weeks ago?’.”

Sounds about right.. typically stuff like that is someone else's future problem to them.

The misses told me they came out today and first thing he said was "yeah that line isn't deep enough" and was able to pull the fiber out by hand ha. So they're going to burry deeper and a different direction which is where I had asked them to trench the first time. Initially they said "did you call 811" I said no.. I know where the line is, the top few inches of the driveway was all that was being removed to then add more millings. The fiber splicer crew said to let them know when we're done digging.. I said digging? I'm not digging haha
