Yeah I’d say that the 2.7 and 2.3 have been around longer and are more proven at this point. I’m just not a fan of the belt driven oil pump which can be found on the 2.7 and the 5.0 coyote. Toyota can’t claim their ReLIaBilITy any more. I was reading somewhere that said the new tundra is one of the most unreliable trucks now.

Good! They deserve as much bad PR as they can get. If they’re going to make prices astronomically higher and also pride themselves on being the most reliable auto manufacturer, then they deserve every bit of the bad PR they can get!

Reminds me of the heyday of the 3G forum. Same as it will ever be.

No its not, there were not my transmission needs replaced threads or in the amount of people also experiencing, low fluid sure, some howling diffs, batch of bad sensors but definitely not the "same as it will ever be."

It was, for sure. You weren't here until 2018, and the earth was falling then, too.

The reason I have the tag in my profile. Went ahead and brought it because I thought surely it can't be that bad. You can go around the other OEMs and pull out similar. In the end, I glad I went with my heaping pile of shit but I am ready to move on to my new overpriced heaping pile of shit.

That’s crazy! Didn’t know that they are labeling the new tundra one of the most unreliable trucks. But then and again they executed the transformation to turbochargers all wrong. If they could have 2 engine options for the Tacoma and tundra so people have a choice then their sales wouldn’t fall as bad. The Tacoma should have the 2.4 standard but as an option put the 4.0 or 3.5 v6. And the tundra should have the 3.5 standard and the 5.7 as an option.

I was under another user name bud. Have had all gens besides 4th and a member since 2011. Im actually friends with the infamous smitty from here and that era you reference. I also had a 16 with some “issues” and was a beta tester of that gen. The earth was falling cause it was a “minivan engine” and everyone thought it was ugly with the underbite and chrome grill there were not failing transmissions or serious issues to question reliability long term or build quality besides some mixed up sport and off road stickers and flares.

Long story short with how “reliable” new gen Toyotas are nowadays, it’s a safe bet to wait 3-4 years before purchasing instead of being a guinea pig and having the new shiny thing

Certainly your opinion and you are entitled to that. While you sit in your Gen3 and in the sidelines for the next 4 years I will be enjoying my Gen4.

I love the high horse some seem to come from, we are what 7 months into production and maybe 100k trucks on the road. It’s early, very very early and limited in number for this gen. We shall see. Hoping cause I’ve had 13 and want to see the name plate continue to hold up to its prior reputation.

    Mine isn't broken.

DMs open if anyone from the YouTube "journalist" community wants to hear how the truck starts, I drive it, and it works. Even had it up to 82mph to pass a car once. True story.

I’m just fine with my trusty gen 3 which I bought at a very good price. But these mid size truck prices are insane. I’m trading my Tacoma in for a F-150 since my family’s growing. Good luck to you though

Yep same here. Crazy how a handful of issues as there are with literally every car and maker and the world is crumbling and people are going to wait 4 years to buy the car. I mean if that is your take you should buy the last year of any generation car and truck and you will be good. Maybe the other guy can wait until they announce the new F150 and he can go get the last year. He should be happy.

They said the same exact thing about the 3rd Gen Tacoma, and I bought a 2016 while it was still 2015 and have never regretted it.
And I’m on a waiting list for a 2024 now.
