Good luck OP, I believe we'll be hearing of a lot more issues with the engines and transmissions in the 2024 Tacoma's.

I agree with how the 4th gens drive. My 23 is in the shop rn with a bad diff and I have a 24 sr5 as a rental. The 24 is WAY faster than the 3rd gen. The seating position is way better. Definitely has some bugs to work out tho. I thought the tailgate felt kinda cheap, maybe it was just me. After a few years of figuring out the problems I wouldnt be afraid of buying one.

Around 22k miles the diff started making a constant, metallic whining noise 10 mph and up. Could only hear it with the back sliding window open. Dealer tore the rear diff apart and said that the gear oil didnt have much glitter or anything, which is good. But they said they found loose parts, that were probably loose from the factory. So ya thats been fun! Thankful for warranty

Super cheap along with a lot of other components I noticed. The two I drove had clunking transmissions. I agree the turbo does drive nice but it should. Reliable long term or cheaper to maintain than the current pig minivan motor, doubtful.

Ignore him he also tried to argue with me that there were no pros available they were all presold and marked up. He’s very solidified in the 4th gen is perfect and everyone is a poor and reason no one has one camp.

    Where do you live exactly?

I'll tell you in SC when it's 93 with 80% humidity and feels like 110, that heat index is real as fuck.

As you probably know, these transmissions are basically like a veal calf. They are meant to be treated very tenderly, given massages, fed a nutrient rich broth of brewers grains and sweetened whole fat milk, and then play soft classical music for them parked.

This is covered in the owners manual if people would just read it.

My taco 'broke down' as well. Sounded like someone was under it banging a metal trash can lid. Then it magically vanisheh the next morning after I had Toyota haul it to the dealer. Then I was able to reproduce it with the dealer foreman. Then again it magically vanished. They kept it for a week and then gave it back to me. It was super loud. I actually wish mine had totally broken like the OP's now because now I have to drive a truck around wondering when the driveline is gonna fail. Still have no idea what caused it.
