Haven't fitted it yet. Waiting till I need to change the oil. But picked up the steel Trailhunter OEM skid plate. The dealer had no installation guide, no information on TIS about it, and it has more holes than the TRD plate because it's meant to interconnect with a longer transmission skid plate. This is cheaper and thicker than the TRD metal skid plate.

I think I paid $300 USD for it, shipped. Unless I'm missing something (like it's missing hardware to install), I can't see why you would buy aftermarket unless you just want a giant heavy piece of thing hanging off the truck.

Installed the trail hunter skid plate today. Took off those two composite plates. There's eight bolts on the composite plates. You only need six bolts for the trailhunter skid plate. Save the other two because if you decide to do the transmission plate, I think you'll need them. I don't know if there's any additional hardware required for the transmission plate.

Install is trivial even for one person. The design is brilliant. The skid plate has two notched holes in it. You thread two of the bolts in to the frame, and then slip the skid plate over top of it and it hangs there from the two bolts. Then you can do the fit up with the other four. You don't have to support it at all.

I didn't find a lot of information online about the transmission skid plate until I looked at the Land Cruiser forums. The trail hunter skid plate is basically a slightly modified version of the land cruiser skid plate. They're both the same frame so it's almost identical.

The part numbers are slightly different but I suspect they're probably compatible.

Mine did not come with any instructions of any kind. However I will leave this here for those that wish to learn more about it. Seems like a lot of people are buying the TRD skid plates for the instant 10 hp gain that it gives you.

The OR has the front crossmember with the two mounting points for the front of the skid plate. As the title says - I have a Sport which does not have the front crossmember.

I have an SR5 and it has the front cross member but the composite skid plate I got from someone who has a TRD is about 3-4" short (bolt holes). My SR5 came with a felt sound proofing material but doesnt work well after you remove the snow plow.

Pretty sure you don't have the crossmember. None of the SR5s do. Especially because you say the bolt holes are 3 to 4" short. That is the distance from the crossmember for the front bumper to the OR crossmember. The OR crossmember is a welded piece of metal between the front tow hook loops. Only the OR, Pro and Trail hunter come with that crossmember.

Do you know if I purchase the cross member from RCI does it allow the composite skid to mount?

It should. The cross member is intended to replicate the one included with the OR and higher trims. Just probably not as strong as the factory one.
