There’s a few companies that sell them I don’t remember which one I got them from. They are Bumpershellz brand. They fit good. I went with a textured black. You can buy paintable ones to match your truck too. Do it on a Saturday and leave them in the sun for a little bit. Plenty flexible. They sent a code you can scan that shows a YouTube video o how to install.

    Good afternoon, TW!
Time for me to update my 2012 Tacoma Blackout Project.
Seeing how I spent Friday shopping for school clothes and supplies with my youngest daughter, then working all day Saturday doing yard work meant only one thing, Sunday after Mass and lunch was Tacoma Fun Mod Day!
Put on some tunes, cracked open a cold one and went to work on Phase III of my Tacoma Blackout.
Took of the stock, chrome step rails and added Toyo part# PT925-35170, Tacoma Double Cab “Predator” Step rails that came off a 2022 Gen 3 Tacoma DBCB.
Install was as straightforward as possible. FYI, a second pair of hands makes this swap super fast and easy!!
After the step rails were installed, it was time to venture into the world of PlastiDip to black out the side Tacoma emblems as well as the rear Toyota Tacoma & PreRunner V6 emblems. I watched the requisite “YouTube How To” videos and went at it. Definitely got better at application as I went along, but overall, I’m happy with it. The only chrome remaining is the rear bumper, front Toyota logo emblem and grille skirt!

Trucks looking good. You should use that plastiDip to do the bumper. Save some cash. I was thinking of doing that to mine. Shellz was $140

Appreciate the kind words! I did some research on PlastiDip and decided it was ok to experiment on the emblems only. The front and rear of the vehicle gets the most opportunities for dings, hits & scratches
& it was recommended to not go with PD.
I’ll spend some $ for quality bumper guards as yours look great!

Super quick addition today. I added the OffRoam phone mount as I’m getting tired of holding the phone for talking or directions. It only took me 7 years…

It took me longer to order this online than it did to install.

Crossed over 200K this last week, so changed the engine oil, transmission fluid, rotated tires, and new serpentine belt should be waiting for me at the parts store in the morning. Front axel CV boots should really be replaced since they’re cracked and starting to leak. Going to take a closer look and see how much further I should tear into the front end while I have the axels out later this month.

Yeah either dremel off all the tabs that hold it in or use a heat gun to soften them up. I used a heatgun.

Any noticeable difference in day to day with these? I always thought they were farce unless you took your rig off-road frequently

No. I off road occasionally and don't have a cap or anything that I put on the bed. They do have extra tie down points which I don't use because I'm rarely hauling anything.

    minor tweaks
Mostly depends on how you use the truck and also the bed. Obviously anything heavy pushing against the side isn't good, In some cases toppers have been known to cause the bed to spread over time, might have been some 4 wheeling also I don't know. I read a post on here of one member that noticed his had spread and he couldn't think of what he did that might have caused it. For street use and with no external stresses like loads of mulch, a topper or rack you're probably ok.

Were to able to reuse the tabs at all? Essentially asking if it’s worth it to go with the heat gun if I end up just dremeling off the tabs anyways.
