I love mountain biking. But I loathe tailgate pads. They scratch bikes. They scratch tailgates. Wheels overhang the pad and scratch taillights. I hate how they block backup cameras etc. For a bunch of reasons, a hitch mount isn’t great. The truck won’t fit in the garage with it in on. I do a lot of towing, so despite how great they work, they’re not great for my use case. I’ve been looking for another option and found the Boundry Rack.

It’s basically a sport bar. I know tcomaworld thinks sport bars are dumb. But whatever. BTTF was aimed at my 12 year old frontal cortex so I’ll always think they’re cool.

But with the Boundry, you add cradles for the wheels.

I haven’t really tested it yet but so far I’m thinking I might really be into this. Loading/unloading is almost as easy as a hitch mount. Downside being I have to climb into the bed. Another downside is it has a similar disadvantage as a roof rack. DON’T JUST PULL INTO THE GARAGE, DUMMY!

They make a kit that allows you to put two dirt bikes in there, but that’s not something I need.

I like how modular and customizable it is allowing to use it for truck stuff without much effort.

Build quality seems to be quite good. I’m not sure if I should trim the top cross bar. It seems like it’s made to fit lots of vehicles so it’s long enough to work with full size trucks.

I’ll post again as I use it more but I think I might really be into this.

so this attaches to the accessory rail?

does it have a specific weight rating?

a roll bar/chase rack with a 2k-3k winch is in my future, because i wanna have it to drag stuff into the bed. is this an option, or is it not up to the task?

it sits on top of the bed rails. There are four different mounting options. I did the lighter duty c-channel method that basically keeps it from sliding back, forth or sideways.

I don’t know the weight rating but it can carry motorcycles…

I'm not usually a fan of Sport Bars but that one looks really good.

IMG_1756.jpg For what it’s worth, this also works, avoiding the tailgate pad issues, and cost me some random 2x4s laying around.

I used it for the first time last night.... There are for sure some pretty big pro's and con's...

I was trying to get away from using my fork mount system because I had left my wheel behind a time or two. Removing the wheel gets old. New forks come with more of a motorcycle style axel, that require two 6mm Allen bolts to remove the front wheel, and bikes are getting so long I couldn't fit two bikes in the back of the truck. You can see how the new bike sits cross ways in the back of the truck - and I ride a medium!
    upload_2024-8-6_10-17-43.png

I also didn't like that I had to remove my little mount system when I wanted to use the truck for truck stuff... upload_2024-8-6_10-20-13.png

However, while climbing into the truck isn't that big of a deal. It requires two straps. One around the wheel on top. And one around the pedal to the cross bar, which has to be in a very specific location, otherwise the bike wobbles - a lot! With the strap around the pedal to the cross bar, the bike is super stable.

However, the cross bar, while less in the way and won't need to be removed as often, is still going to be in the way and is a bit more of a hassle to remove than my older system.

So, while this does allow me to carry two bikes again. The number of steps required is just about as bad. Lift the bike, strap the front wheel, strap the pedal... It's less steps than a Latchet - bed extender bike rack, or installing/removing a trailer hitch every time I go for a ride... It's been a bit of a hassle getting everything set up. Maybe I'll feel a little less exacerbated the more I use it. But it would have been nice to know all the Tacoma specific measurements when installing it.

I do still think it looks cool... And for sure we all do things that we think look cool all the time... So yeah. Sharing for other folks who are considering something like this and I'll come back and update as I use it more.

    lol.

my fork mount is screwed into a spare 2x4 i had. it sits between my bed stiffeners and tailgate when i use it, not mounted to anything.

only picture i have of the actual mount, but it extends the entire width of the bed.

i also use a 1up hitch mount, but sometimes im lazy and leave my bike in the bed for a week or two which makes spontaneous bike rides much easier
