    It pisses me off.

My new 4Runner however is solid as a rock. I hope I get a lot of years out of it.

"car engine" is the most tired take. If you can think of a mass-produced pickup engine of the last 70 years that isn't a diesel, it was probably in a car or van too. I can think of a few exceptions but you aren't getting the same tune just because the engine is mechanically the same.

The 3.5L "minivan engine" in my 3rd gen was far better on economy and power than the 4.0L "truck engine" in my 4Runner.

He gets clicks from hot takes.

But to be fair people got tired of auto shows calling every new model "Car of the year"

4th gen isn't perfect but its a perfect direction from the 3rd gen.

Honestly if it doesnt rust and doesnt have major engine failures it will be the best generation easily.

His oldest video on YouTube was from 6 years ago, so I guess that was when TRD Jon was birthed

I tracked MPG on my 2021 Tacoma 4wd Off-Road for three years. Average mpg was 17.8. Mostly city driving. It was stock with Michelin LTX AT/2’s.

I fully expect my 2024 4Runner Off-road average to be 16.8. My 4Runner drives better than the Tacoma.

Seeing similar numbers and it only got worse with the roof rack. The 4Runner does feel good in 4Lo but as a daily, I feel I need to get way more into it than my MT Taco or the AT TRD Sport I had when my Jeep was in the shop for a week.

I’m perplexed by a focus on gas mileage with trucks. Sure, it’s nice to get decent gas mileage….but if you really care that much about it, buy a Prius.

You can say I’m a fanboy. Wife too is in a Lexus and before that a rav4 and Camry. I thought I’d always be in a Tacoma and I’m not expecting Lexus quality here it’s never been close to that in materials, but sitting in some 4th gen’s it just felt cheaper and was noticeable coupled with the sloppy build quality and expecting people to put faith in the longevity and reliability of a turbo just is a hard ask especially at the price point. And yes it pisses me off enough to sit it out and let them either figure out their decreased sales / lost customers or let them sell bunches of them and just buy used or another brand.

He literally has had a ton of new Toyotas and always first to snag the new new. But that’s it. He doesn’t really contribute to the community like he hasn’t owned a bunch of gens past the most recent or has wrenched on etc. now he just spews out Toyota marketing and product placement.

I don’t really care. I just bring it up for comparison.

You need to change your avatar pic. The red dragon is gone.

Depending on how old you are that 4Runner could outlast you. Build quality and consistency.

I think you mean a Rivian R1T or maybe a Lightning. If the R1T had a 5-ft box, I'd be on it.

I'm not looking to get 30mpg but at some point, it becomes a concern. If I'm getting 12mpg vs 15mpg, that's an extra jerry worth of fuel on the roof if I need that range.
