Was the red paint a factor in your decision at all? I think Supersonic Red is a cool color.

Installed Icon coilover top plate reinforcements.

Pretty straight forward install. The back two bolts on both sides are way easier to access from under the hood. Will save you some agony and time.

As someone looking to add onboard air with that setup how much room is there where you put it?

No, not really. I liked the red, but happily trade out the color’s cost for the bedliner my new taco has for the same cost. I haven’t had a silver vehicle since I bought my 01 taco crew cab with the gutless 4 cyl. I would rather have had solar octane or bronze, but silver’s ok too.

Definitely not "necessary" for a turbo engine.

Performance wise, you aren't going to see a lot of gain out of a CAI unless there are other, complementing mods. There other options (tune, downpipe, exhaust, etc) that will give more substantial gains for similar cost. I haven't seen any of those available for the 4th gen yet, though. There's probably a cat back that hasn't hit my radar. I just haven't looked.

Aesthetically, a CAI looks better to some people in an engine bay and "turbo go wrrrhhhh" sounds are likely going to be louder and subjectively better/worse depending on who's ears are listening.

Haha, this is a solid breakdown. Appreciate it. Sounds like I can put that cash elsewhere!

I have an AFE panel filter maybe a bit more turbo noises not much but when AFE comes out with a CAI for our trucks it should sound far better. AFE makes a few exhausts and a charge pipe for our trucks. I really like their products I put there stuff on all my rigs

For the record, I'm part of the "turbo go wrrrhhhh is a good sound" camp. Prior to the Taco I owned 4Runners and a whole, long list of turbo charged cars. Mostly Subarus, a Nissan, and a BMW thrown in there just for funsies.

Tried ordering the OEM trailhunter exhaust turndown but it’s on backorder with no ETA…. So I built my own. I made a jig and ordered parts for a small production run on them if anyone is interested. Should be a little cheaper than the oem unit.
