Help! Alignment cam tab broke.

I removed the old brackets. Had to cut the old adjuster bolts (new bolts were ~$200), so I could remove the LCA, so I could weld the TC brackets on.

 

Dorf as you can see from my pictures it does clear my RCI Skids.

 

That's because the RCI skids don't offer any coverage of the LCA cam tabs at all. I got rid of my RCI skid because of that money saving choice by them to save material/increase profits and got the 3rd gen TRD Pro skid plate that does add coverage.

But now it doesn't matter to you with the Marlin gussets.

 

Jason you are correct. I did kind of plan it that way after a ton of research. I knew with other skids the Marlin kit might not play nice. I will add that I did have to trim the RCI skids for the Marlin HD kit a small bit on the Trans Skid if I remember correctly. Right at the front of it. There is a thread here somewhere that shows how much trimming you need to do.

 

Thank you for pointing that out, i was concerned id need to notch my skids to clear the gussets. Stoked for the install, they arrived in 2 days after purchase. Gotta love Marlin.

 

Dorf I did have to notch the trans skids.

 

Firestone did the same damn thing on mine. Frickin asshat manager didnt want to own up to it. Had to clearly explain the truck did not leave my house with bent tabs. Total derp.

Problem is most shops and techs go in ham handed and don’t first loosen the securing nut a few turns before adjusting at the bolt head. OR some will loosen too much and the cam is no longer contained in the tabs. Either way ends up fubaring the tabs when everything gets cranked down.

Buddy of mine fixed the one that was flattened and cracked. Vice grip clamp held it in place, tacked, then ran a bead behind it. Prepping the rest to run beads behind tabs to reinforce. If I had several more bent or broken off, I’d have gone with TC cam tabs.

There was some wiping, from where they rotated about 20-30 deg (at most). That thing clearly did several rotations.

I do appreciate the post, in helping me identify the cause of the severe toe out. My guess was a bent tie rod (which it very well may be, but not nearly as obvious as the busted cam tab.
