I have thousands of dollars into my drift RC stuff (ugh), so yeah, $150 for an RTR little basher is dirt cheap. Though I'm now $200 into parts into the thing because I wanted more speed. :D

Nice! that looks like the bigger one (TRX-4, 1-10th scale) Mine is the smaller 1/18th scale TRX-4M.

Still fun to play with, and the closest I'll ever come to owning an actual one. https://www.classic.com/m/land-rover/defender/l316/110/wagon/

I guess I'm weird, because I do not understand the crawlers. RC or in RL, though. I just don't get any joy out of it. I'd rather have something I can drive fast, catch air, and crash a bunch without breaking.

A guy I work with used to run nitro boats years ago, then got in to heli's.. you had to walk his garage floor on tippy toes to not step on parts and new kits.

I have to see if I can the picture of my brothers garage and his drone obsession. It's a little much.

Right right. I had just happen to walk into the hobby store at the end of a long day at work. Walked around looking at stuff, seen it, and said it's going home with me.

Fair enough. I'm not into 1:1 crawlers, but the small stuff is fun to just drive around small areas with and figure out what you can and can't crawl up. It's also just fun to see the suspension flexing or competing with friends to see who can make it up obstacles.

I used to be in to 1/8th scale bashing but parts added up so quickly. Crawling and drifting rarely ever break parts.

It seems like every other time i took my nitro-Revo out I broke something. 40mph offroad rig, jumping around and such... yeah... Never used it at a track, just at parks, gravel roads, fields.

So far I had one servo go bad on the traxxas. that was RIGHT after getting it. The replacement i put in has been fine for years.

I also like being able to stand around and chat with folks while driving. Way less concentration needed than when you're driving crazy fast.

I know so little I didn't know there were different names for anything but crawling. LOL I assume what I am talking about would be "bashing" then?

Yeah "bashing" I use as a term to just beat the crap out of your truck lol. The fast 40+ mph trucks that you jump off stuff and hope doesn't break too badly.

Crawling is all the slow stuff (under 10 mph). You can go even more specific with "trailing" which is more scale realistic stuff.

This is one of the pictures I found of his drones. But it's a couple years old. Now he's in a new house with a bigger garage. Back wall has about 6 or 7 But I think he's up to 20 plus drones.

I just remember back when I was a kid what RC was. It wasn't as much of a specialized hobby, but more of just expensive toys. Still, best one I ever had was a Tyco "Rebound" and it was badass. Plenty fast, but had left and right drive so it steered like a skid steer. Thing was bonkers fun and could run upside down because of the way it was built. Love that thing. Might still have it in the shed somewhere, but I'm sure the batteries are long defunct and impossible to replace now.

If I could get a modern equivalent I'd be on it. I don't need these ballistic speed machines they have now. Just what was "fast" back in the '90s and wouldn't break when thrashed around.

I'd really like to try one of the FPV drones, with the goggles. DJI released a pretty quick one a few years back that I was tempted with. Borrowed a friends micro one for a while, DJI Spark I believe, but was always losing it in the wind, so I never really used it for filming anything as intended.
