Wait... what's wrong with a WRX? Well, besides most of the asshats driving them...

Dammit, I like the Supra too...

Just raining all over my parade... :pout:

Before he pointed it out, I honestly thought it was some kind of white lithium grease to facilitate the disconnect/connect action when I noticed it. I was surprised when he stated it was some kind of traditional latex caulking. It almost looks like assembly compound. My question was: "why"? Really doesn't look like it will stand the test of time. AFAIK: There's no caulking like this on any generation of the Tacoma..... (until now) The ding for the drain plug above it marginal complaint IMO: Drape some tin foil over the dis-connect gizmo, and put a drip mat on the floor under it and spray some Windex on everthing when you're done.

The rusting on the un-painted boot-clamps would be nit pick IF: it didn't happen to be on a -brand new-- truck.

I don't think the WRX has that same stigma. It does have the flat brim vape-tard image though. Easy enough to avoid. Just don't go to any WRX meets or FB pages.

STI is not a WRX, not in that generation of car. Totally different engines and buyers. STI is definitely in the STD category.

I've always loved these cars. And of course in the ridiculous blue STI color. The WRX is the only car I'd never, ever, under any circumstances, buy used. Second only to Mustang owners, WRX owners destroy everything they touch.

You would have loved mine. I don't abuse my cars. I had fun, but nothing that would approach abuse. Miss it every summer, but after it was snowed in for 4 months I got tired of the payment.

Unless you're turning 80 tomorrow: you won't be able to afford it. (new -or- used)
    :proposetoast:

(full disclosure: dunno when these became available, but -I- wanted one (hah!) and couldn't afford one either: when I was 20, 30, 40, whatever: never mind today.

He bags on the motorized tailgate in two vids.

The motorized tailgate will be useful when sleeping in the bed. Closing the gate from the inside, with a cab high camper shell can be challenging for some.

I never had a problem closing the light tailgate on my 97 taco.

It’s much harder in my 21 Tundy. My wife can’t close it from the inside, due to the weight. She needs to close it from the outside then clime over the tailgate to access the bed.

It’s even difficult for me to close the heavy Tundy gate from the inside.

I can see this being useful for those who sleep in the bed with a shell. Especially those who lack strength.

Without a shell one can stand in the bed making it easier to close the gate. The shell keeps you on your knees making it harder to close.

Seems like a good thing for campers.

The oil draining from up there onto the stabi bar helps coat it in oil so it doesn't rust! Brilliant engineering from Toyota, brilliant I say!

Every time I think I want a WRX/STI I start looking at used ones. Then I notice half of them have new or rebuilt motors. I think I could only buy new.

We had a FA20 WRX in the shop tuesday and I jokingly shouted "HEADGASKET!" when they reved it up. The tech came by later and confirmed there was a massive coolant leak, low KM.

They are crap, but fun to own as long as you can wrench.

They blow gaskets when they are modded. Leave it stock and it's not nearly as big of an issue in the turbo subies because they use a metal gasket. Non turbo it's a gamble. I've heard it's pretty easy to do the gasket, though, because of the boxer config. I'm not a mechanic so I don't know how true that is.

    WRX? Nah.

    This.
    upload_2024-8-9_9-56-20.jpg

Bought new in ‘06, still miss its unfiltered bionic powers.

The Evo X that followed this car was celebrated by media hacks as completely new and improved in every way, and Mitsubishi was seeking to leverage a wider target audience and greater margins. But “X” was in fact a shared platform with new powertrain that looked great on paper but inevitably was seen as a letdown to the 4G63 faithful. Now where have I seen that narrative lately?

Loved my 05. Made it a little stealth since I was out of the normal age range. I should have kept this car for fun. It was fun as hell. Cobb tune and a few other goodies.
