2012 sunk in river, now won't start with grinding noise

I may be wrong but that salt prob got deposited everywhere and may take awhile to start wreaking havoc

 

I don’t know how you determined is wasn’t hydro locked, and I’m not trying to argue with you, and looking at the picture I still thinking hydrolock. When you got stuck in the water did you turn the engine off while it was still running or did the engine die? If it was still running and you turned it off then possibly not hydrolock. If it died without you turning it off then likely hydrolock.

 

Read this, and immediately knew exactly where you were and what you did. I did that deep part of the crossing a few years ago, and decided that that was going to be the only time after realizing there was probably a decent amount of salt in there and stopping at a coin-op wash in Fort Bragg to clean every thing.

Damn, you really got in there deep. That really sucks.

 

Turned it off as soon as I was stuck, and the. Pulled all spark plugs before cranking to make sure no water was in the cylinders.

Crazy part is that it didn’t start that deep. As the water flowed under the truck it sank more and more til it was sitting on the bumpers. Whoops lol. Luckily I have a few rigs

 

Words of encouragement though with a story. A guy I work with tows his little boat with his ford Taurus to mass. Last summer he parked too close to the tide line without knowing. He came back and the tide had already gone down but he found seaweed on his windshield wipers and on top of his battery. This was a year ago and it’s still running…

It was deeper than expected when I did it, and I'm convinced that the thing that saved me was going reasonably fast and creating a real big bow wake.

How is the fishing out there? We keep talking about going crabbing, but the surf is so damn strong that I'm not sure how well that would really work.

 

Far north as you can go on the beach but the rock in the water I catch 6 foot leopard sharks all the time. I also fish with a dip net in the waves for smelt. Was just up there 2 weeks ago and caught a ton!

 

It never starts *that* deep. Unless you drive it off a pier or bridge.

I beach drive all the time, and rule number one is never drive below the tide line. Better to get stuck in soft sand and have to dig out than test out your trucks submarine capabilities.

 

Is that salt water?

If so it is screwed.

 

Pull the drive belt.
Crank the truck. If the noise goes away, spin the bearings on each component.
If the noise doesn’t go way. You’re in for some work.

Also, the crank sensor is not easy to get to.
Best I remember it’s down by and behind the ac compressor.

You “might” get lucky and get to the connector. But it’s still not going to be easy.

Sorry about truck. Hopefully there's not a bunch of salt damage that you'll end up chasing. I'd pull the serp belt and spin the alternator. I wouldn't be surprised if it has a bunch of sand and junk in it.

Was the ignition underwater? Not sure what would make that act up if it wasn't so it may be unrelated and just fluke timing.
