It's a good looking truck. A bit over-styled with fake air scoops and too many "TRD" badges everywhere, but other than that, not bad. If they were smart, they would let you custom order one with just what you want in options. No "premium this" packages. No: Crash-camera, no "adaptive cruise-control that"... If you want a power seat with no sunroof, you should be able to get it. If you want heated/cooled power seats without full climate control: done. This would help with the $65,000+ MSRP mess. Those crazy Baja seats are slick, but should be an option that is not tied to anything. Power tailgate: separate option. Now we're below $50k for the Pro... which is still too much. Get rid of all the nervous hybrid/turbo/4cyl hi-zoot engines and find a Lexus V6 to put in it.

The Tacoma deserves this after all of these years of carrying the company. If the 4Runner has it: so should the Tacoma.

You realize the 4Runner is the same story right? They're TNGA too. Same basic Turbo-4, with the hybrid power in higher trims. Virtually every single Toyota product is going to the new TNGA architecture. Lexus, Toyota, all of it.

Says who? No idea what TNGA is, (and I don't really care) but the current 4Runner still has the 270 hp 4.0L VVT I/E V6: You realize this is the same story right? If the 4Runner has this engine, the Tacoma should too, right? Does the 5th gen 4Runner have the new 4cyl hybrid turbo? Not according to their website. Doesn't matter, because if it did, I wouldn't buy it.

(but it doesn't) This is the engine the current Tacoma should carry. It has earned it.

So you mean do exactly the opposite of what Toyota and Lexus have done for forever? I agree it would be cool but it's just not their business model.

The new Gen4 looks better than that Tesla rolling dumpster of a truck. But it’s still homely. Looks like a Transformer.

Yes! Why not? What "They have been doing forever" isn't working right now with their current $50/60,000+ entry price point model for a TRD Pro. For that kind of asking price, they should come standard with a Lexus V8 as a no-cost option... not some wheezing Twin-Turbo Hybrid 4-Banger. Even the 4Runner doesn't suffer this insult.

Yet. Give it a few more months and the 2025 4Runner will be just that.

The current 4Runner is a dinosaur leftover from 15 years ago, the 2025 will be built on the same chassis and engine as the Tacoma. Such an insult to finally have an engine with low end torque in the Tacoma again.

What about it isn’t working? What are the sales numbers?
I don’t disagree that building a truck to your own personalized specifications would be awesome, but if they are selling under the current pricing model nothing is going to change…

The 2025 4Runner will have the exact same 4cylinder Tacoma engine the idiot engineer said it will be identical to the Tacoma in every single way except it will have a covered bed

Well, if that is the decision, they're confusing me: another ding to another flagship model. Maybe it's me?

True: and such a shame. I'm a Toyota cheerleader and 75% of everything seems off the rails presently.
