Does anyone have a list of seals and parts that would be good to replace while changing an axle? Needle bearing with ECGS bushing if doing the driver's side. Axle nut? Anything else?

there are oil seals on either side of the diff that are probably a good idea to replace. I personally messed the driver side one up when i did a ecgs bushing that caused my diff to leak until I replaced it

I’d be interested in a pair. Gotta replace mine on my ‘09 sport. I’ll look it up if I have to, but do these fit all the models?

Just a purchase update, the axle came super fast I was surprised, just a few days later. Looks to be in good shape, some denting of the dust shields as predicted but I'll just bend them back best I can. Happy to have a spare axle now, thanks again!

I tried installing a 3rd Gen Tacoma axle in a 4th gen 4Runner V8 today, and it seems like there is an issue with the fit. The 4Runner is about 18 inches from the diff to the knuckle, and the Tacoma is 18.5-18.75 inches. With the Tacoma axle in the 4Runner, the inner boot is scrunched up with all the ribs touching. That will certainly lead to early failure.

It's surprising because all the aftermarket axles are listed as the same part number for both vehicles, including CVJ who uses Toyota parts. Toyota has several different parts numbers for the different vehicles. The 4Runner had 4 ribs on the inner boot, and the Tacoma has three. The middle shaft might be longer on the Tacoma, but it's hard to tell without taking it apart. I assumed the Toyota part number change was just improvements to the boots, but it seems like it's more than that.

I don't know about compatibility for 4th gen V6 4Runners or second gen Tacomas. I expect second gen Tacomas would be more likely to work with 3rd gen axles. I believe some people have successfully tried that combination.

Tacoma in back, 4Runner in front. The 4Runner boot may be a bit stretched because I re-secured it with a hose clamp. It's common for these to leak at the small clamp on the inner boot, and it seems like Toyota has fixed that for newer axles by tweaking the boot design.
