It looks like the water tower is the highest point for miles - how far away can you see it?

Last night I dug into the specific parts of my new computer I bought from Costco to see how the price would have compared to if I would have built it myself, which 11 years ago was the cheaper way to go.

Using PC Part Picker, I entered everything in and it all came to $1,489.74.

Building my computer on the site that built it for Costco, it was $1,823.

Costco sells it for $1,299.99 (already a comparatively good price) but it was on sale for $999.99. Needless to say, I was pretty pleased with those numbers.

I'm pretty sure the only reason the water tower is visible is because the camera is on the roof of the 5th floor. From ground level, you can't really see it.

I'll try to pull up my other camera to compare.

    @RustyGreen

The two buildings on the far left are RDO Tower (tallest building in Fargo and second tallest in the state) and the Raddison Blu which was the tallest in the city.

Still dead flat, but the bottom of a lake tends to be flat.

The "scope" of the flatness always strikes me, I think being that exposed would creep me out -- how do you step behind something to have a whizz when you can see 9 miles in all directions?
    .
    .
...and someone 9 miles away can see you. :anonymous:

Here there is always a hill/mountain in the background wherever you are.

I want to make a nice mailbox post and have them a little neater for us and our 3 neighbors. I ask my wife to message them so we don’t make anyone mad.

    Now.

    upload_2024-8-9_17-47-25.jpg

Everyone said fine, whatever. Except for one lady. She said make sure and put them far enough back so the snow plow doesn’t knock them down.

Guess who’s is closest to the road :burp:

    upload_2024-8-9_17-48-48.jpg

This much I know, it doesn’t matter how far back your mailbox is, it depends on how wet/heavy the snow is and how fast the plow is going

    Looks like our mailbox area.
The neighbors just up the road had their 4 mailboxes ran over a few weeks ago and put all 4 on 2 posts and a board between them looks good.

What an opportunity for a signature piece

Show off your artistry with two looping arches, starting about 10’ back suspending a small platform for the boxes.

Make them at the perfect height for the post person while mitigating for a plow doing 50 mph after a 12” storm!

Leave the dissenter's box on her sad little stick and enough room on the platform just in case she wants to join.

    Good morning everyone :hattip:
