suggested offset for 17's

You are completely correct. I am talking about how the rims will stick out, not the tires. If I made it sound like I was staying otherwise I apologize for the confusion.

In order to figure out how far the tires will stick out, you need to take offset into account, since offset is a measurement of how far off center the rim is, and the tires are centered on the rim.

 

Found out that the stock rim is 17x7.5 with 5.5" BS.

So if I get 17x8.5 with 4.5" BS the RIMS will stick out about 2" more than stock.

I measured the bulge on my stock tires:
From factory rim edge to outer edge of tire in 1.25"

So with the new rims and same size tires the new tires will only stick out about an inch more than stock...
Because the new rim is wider the 265 tire will bulge out less.

Does that make sense to anyone else? Does to me.
Im leaning towards the 4.5" bs.

Sorry to bring up an older thread, but this seems to be the topic I'm looking for. I have seen a million topics on here about Backspace and offset. Seen illustrations, on how it works and read some opinions. From what I can gather, 4.5bs and -12os seems to be the common "Ideal" setting. (I still don't completely understand this stuff, no matter how much I read about it)

I'm having my 5100s @.85, and Eibach front coils put on in the near future, so I will hopefully have the lift necessary for the 285/70/17 Duratrack's I want to run. After seeing most all of the Rims in person, I finally have my choices down to the two below. (Also, I will not be doing any off roading, this is mainly a street truck)

I already accept I will have to trim the plastic inside the wheel well, maybe the inner fender and hit or miss on removing the mud-flaps. I really don't want to start chopping cab mounts, or rub on my stock UCAs.

As you can see, the Crank's have a 5bs and 0os. I assume this will stick out more then the Revolvers with the 4.5bs, -12os. Or I'm backwards, and it will stick out less.. Regardless, will these work? Am I going to rub on my UCAs and need to chop the $hit out of cab mounts, ect? The Revolvers have the "Ideal" setting according to what I can understand, but I really do like the style of the Crank's.

When talking to the "Expert" at the wheel shop today, the only good advice he could give me was one set would stick out farther then the other... Needless to say, I wasn't impressed by his knowledge or help.

Size - 17" x 9"

Revolver's:

The 4.5" backspacing is the key number. Don't pay attention to offset, because for rims with a given backspacing, the offset will change depending on the rim width.

4.5" backspacing will stick out MORE than 5.0" backspacing. I've seen folks fit 33's on 5.0" backspacing, it just requires more trimming and cutting than with 4.5" backspacing.

 

KPT, did you have to do any trimming with your current tire/wheel setup?

 

I did not, but I only have 265/65/18's.

 

I'm just hoping to avoid chopping the cab mount, and rubbing on the UCAs. Any idea if I might run into this problem? I dont care if I have to cut some plastic, and the inside fender part that everyone else seems to trim.

The Tires are just under 33" by a hair. I'm not sure what mounting them on the rim will do to the measurements, if anything...

I haven't seen any of the 5" BSguys rubbing on the UCA, but I think they all had to chop their cab mounts....not positive though.
