Part Numbers / Part Diagrams for TRD PRO Shock Assemblies

I just pulled my F&R shocks from my 2018 Pro to get them rebuilt. Lots of rust and deterioration on associated hardware, mounting bushings, the coil spring caps, the dust sleeves for the shocks, etc. Would like to order and replace a number of those parts while I'm in there. Does anyone have a definitive list of part numbers or a known correct parts diagram for F & R for all these parts? I'm having trouble finding anything clear on toyota parts website or searching here.

Also, should I just bite the bullet and replace control arm bushings (or the entire control arms if more cost effective) while I'm in there? Truck has about 55k on it, lives year round outside in New England. Only offroad occasionally and mildly.

 

It’s not a Toyota product really. Yes, they have the shocks with a Toyota part number but they don’t do parts for the shocks since they have Fox OE them completely.

You’re going to want to talk to Fox directly for shock rebuild components. You can send it to them as well. Not sure what the price difference would be, but you’ll need certain things like compressed nitrogen. The general rebuild cost is listed on their website.

I would only replace the bushing or control arm if you think it’s bad. Especially if you don’t offroad.

 

Forum member Ian is taking care of the rebuild for me. The hardware to mount the shocks and the coil springs have to be available from Toyota, right?

Not always. Toyota doesn’t service them. I’ve asked them before, and most of the time they say it’s either under warranty, insurance claim or nothing at all.

He went way overboard and extra on cleaning everything up, which I really appreciated. Thanks Ian!

I was able to sort out part numbers for the rubber isolators, top hats, and the front shock shaft guard (mine were torn when I pulled the shocks). Rear shock shaft guard was a whole other story - see below. I ended up reusing all the hardware (washers, nuts, bolts, etc.) and just cleaned it up and chased threads where needed. New top hats include the rubber isolator for the spring, which you can't buy separately.

You can currently still buy the front shock shaft guard directly from Fox with the part number below by calling them directly at 619-768-1800 and choosing customer support from the menus. I talked to a real nice guy named Ethan Russel there who put the order together. Cost was $8 each plus $15 shipping to the east coast.

REAR SHOCK SHAFT GUARD
I couldn't find these anywhere. These are obsolete as far as Fox is concerned, and they have no inventory of these, and they have no orders to buy more from their supplier. Their supplier is Daystar Products International (DPI), and Daystar's part number is M56204-RD. Daystar doesn't have any in stock, and has no plans to make more at this time. So, what to do? My originals were probably still serviceable, but they were worn out and starting to rip. So I ended up making my own replacements. I redesigned them slightly and 3D printed out a set in TPU. They turned out pretty good, similar flexibility in the body, and I think they'll hold up alright. Due to limitations with my printer, I had to make them slightly shorter than the originals (about 18mm), but they still just start to cover the shock body, so they should be fine even at full extension.

 

Oh and here's the Toyota install instructions for the TRD PRO shocks. I know they've been posted before but I had a hard time finding them due to dead links. So adding them here for anyone needing them in the future.

Thanks for the write up! Is the washer circled in the picture what holds up the shaft guards? I think i’m missing one causing the guard to rest on the bottom of the spring perch..

For the rears, there is a washer built-in to the shock shaft guards that locates on the shaft itself, and I replicated that feature with mine. On the fronts, the washer below what your circled is what attaches the front shock shaft guard. You actually work the guard onto that washer and the guard becomes captured by it.

I don't know the p/n on that one, sorry. Heads up that washer is captured on the shaft on mine and doesn't seem to easily come off.

 

after watching the westcott spacer install video on youtube it looks like the shaft itself does not have that ring on it (for the 4runner at least). The opening on the boot looks much smaller as well.

Ya I think that the washer is still captured in the shock shaft guard in that vid/pic. The washer locates into a groove in the guard, so apparently in that instance it was happier to stay in the guard than on the shaft.

For anyone referencing this at a later date, the washer that holds the front shock boot in place is P/N: 241-01-077.

The boot and the washer are the same for the 4Runner as well.

I talked to Ethan @ fox today and he was quickly able to get that ordered for me!

Good note on the KYB top hap set. That would have been a good choice, and way cheaper than Toyota parts.

Here's the replacement 3D printed rear shock shaft guard in place. Looks too clean - needs some mud.
