A fender or a hood would be like a yard n a half for even just one layer. Would need more like 3 minimum with some kinda channeling or fluting to have the strength for offroad applications. So material alone is like half the cost of a pair of fenders from fiberwerx. Add to that the overhead of having to keep it refrigerated and then baked to cure. Their $1200 fenders are either only cf on the top layer and fiberglass underneath, wet lam maybe, or (probably and) not being ethically made

Probably. Maybe vacuum bagged with a layer or two of cf and then a couple layers of glass. I've never seen regular glass fenders in person but i guess a layup like that would still come out lighter and stronger

I would advise against carbon entirely if you want it raw. I’m assuming they use the same molds for everything and I had some pretty big fitment issues with my FW that you would never hide with raw carbon.

But, if you don’t care about lines then it probably won’t matter.

also, prepreg vacuum molded would probably be 1500$ a fender lol.

I've been telling APG to start making tacoma fenders. His carbon Ranger and Bronco fenders fit as good as OEM, but you pay for it

Let's all start emailing them till they give in.

I just don’t see the long term longevity being great or worth the extra money. Even when I was messing with all of the high dollar car stuff, high end carbon was nothing but a headache. Constantly needed attention to keep it looking tip top. Can’t even imagine the upkeep out where most of you guys are.

I agree. I would be so scared to drive around an off-road truck that's surrounded with carbon fiber.

Sure it looks fucking sick, but I don't see how it's worth it

Apparently ADV partnered with APG to make the hard tops, and APG stole the designs and patented them in their own name behind ADVs back, then took all the money they were sending them to design the hardtop and ghosted them.

But who knows. In the end customers who paid ADV are getting screwed, so ADV should be responsible whatever the case is behind the scenes

Imagine having 8k in panels only to do this in 3 months. Only, it couldn’t be fixed with raw carbon.

It's the opposite of what you said.

APG designed product, and ADV was brought in to be the customer sales end of it, ADV tried to bypass APG but found out it was already protected. When ADV got caught trying to push APG ( the patent owner out) they in turn got told to f off and now don't know how to get their customers orders filled and are trying to push the blame.

    Whole lotta stuff
Guess I have a dump truck now. Looks like JD fab cuts the filler neck near the top, and runs replacement fuel hose down to the inlet. Trying to solve some evap codes while I’m here so that’s why the beds off. But didn’t have to look far, all the replacement hoses for the filler failed. All cracked and nasty. Filler hose broke in two places. Gonna take the time to paint my bedsides while I’m here too. Anyone else do their own paint? What did you do for prep? Just clean, prime, sand and coat?
