As I understand it Seth Laam worked for Russel before setting out on his own. He's done a shit ton of FJR seats at this point and a lot of the owners I know are really happy with his work. I've referred several people to him at this point. He was in Redding, CA but just this year moved to WV making him about the only east coast custom seat builder there is. I thought about doing a ride in and having him do another seat for me but since I can't ride both FJRs at the same time I can just swap seats as needed. Friend of mine has a Russel and I rode it and I wasn't hugely impressed but it wasn't a long ride so that would make a difference. I just can't get past the appearance of it. Too much like a tractor seat.

Dang! Flip the pic, and it looks like the Riddler was riding your bike. Big azz question mark.

In 30 years, I have had one bike that kept the factory seat and that was the Goldwing. Everything else got a better one. The BMW is the first Corbin I have had that was comfortable, the stock F800 seat was a pain in the ass literally.

Got out for a 30mile jaunt around town scooter ride. While out I went and checked on my work truck that is in the shop. They are still waiting on approval to fix the damn thing. I swear the company that handles of fleet is poo-thetic.

KTM/Husky's are all hydro. TBH my hydro pull is harder than my RSC setup was on the DRZ. Highly recommend an RSC if you want a butter smooth pull.

I might have to try that out. I'd probably still need to cut it though since my bars are short too.

Had a Corbin on my FJ1100 back in the day. Improvement over stock but nothing like a true custom seat. In reality have a true custom made up isn't really that much more money that an off the shelf aftermarket.

Easier pull in general and no cable maintenance.
Plus GG and beta for sure. I think all the boutique brands (sherco/tm/reiju). I think just the Japanese brands are still using cables?

I never tried the rsc lever when i had my drz.

interesting now here is a question how easy is it to rupture the hydro line offroad? ive seen it happen a lot on crawlers and tractors and such so how do they hold up to abuse?

I had it on my f4i, r6, and drz. Super smooth for a cable lever.

I've had hydraulic clutches on most of the bikes I've owned dating back to the mid 1980's and have never had to replace a clutch hose.

I work for a company that rebuilds hydraulic cylinders, mostly big mobile crane stuff. Most of the time those hoses get blown it has more to do with external damage from mishandling, expose to the elements, and a serious lack of preventative maintenance than anything else.

Well that makes a lot of sense. I've heard people count on the Russell. But it's just massive. I've only ever seen ONE bike that it didn't look ridiculous on. And that was an odd old tourer to begin with. I really like the look of the seats in the Laam gallery. Looks very well done.

I've got two Corbin's. My daily is my GRiSO, and that seat came in hard as a rock, but the ergonomics are absolutely perfect. I was told to be patient and ride it. I did and am glad. It has taken a set after 3000 (often water logged) miles. Fits to a T and I'm happy. The other is a total custom on a rare bike. Very forgiving. Both well done. On another bike I've the 70's style bench, which is a Sargent, and on my Jackal, a 'cottage' maker who's now out of the game, unfortunately.
