I'll bump this up for anyone who hasn't done this yet.
Here's a safe way (without cutting wires) to disable that annoying ass door buzzer that keeps ringing when the driver door is open with the keys in the ignition...
Now you can pound the sounds with the doors wide open all you want....
This works for my 04, but i'm not sure if it'll work for other 1st gens.....
Also, i don't have stock power locks or alarm, so i dont know if that might play a factor in this as well.
    Anyways, here goes.

    Step 1.
Remove the panel under the steering wheel column. You'll need a phillips and a socket wrench.

    Step 2.
Find this clip and harness. Should be positioned directly below the ignition and near the parking brake.
    arrow-1_e5c430cf127425415bea19bee16c1acbcd556928.jpg

    Step 3.
Remove the clip from the housing like so. Leave the clip unattached.
    DSC03600-1_83a5a54c1dc0aac7487a8a6ce1adf73a4cca9e41.jpg

Here's a closer shot of the wires...
    DSC03605-1_d55d14db4652bc4e398f6d92a6cffd4985656196.jpg

    Step 4.
Replace the panel. Should you happen to miss the sound of your annoying buzzer, you can easily replace the clip at anytime.

I believe the green wire w/ red stripe is for the actual buzzer, but i still haven't found out what the other 3 wires are for. I've had mine off for a while now and everything else still works fine. Only sometimes i forget to pull my keys out of the ignition.

Wait so that big ass plug with all of those wires is only for the door buzzer functionality?

Looks suspect to me.. What else are you disabling with that mod?

i believe it also disables the lights coming on when you open the doors, and also little green ring around your ignition. At least that is what mine does on my 98

4 wires could be: 1)ground 2) key in "sensor" 3) door open "sensor" 4)buzzer

I just cut the green and red/brown wire...but if you don't have an alarm like me...you leave your key in your ignition and lock the doors it will lock it vs if the key is in the ignition and you try to lock the door, the lock springs back so you don't lock yourself out. If you really want the door lock to spring back then there is another option of just removing the buzzer by the fuse all together.

***Edit: I reattached the green wire and just pulled the buzzer off of the fuse box instead. Here is the pic taken from TTORA:

I've attempted twice to get the cover off of the fuse box, but to no avail. First I could not get the connector disconnected, so I disconnected where the wires are attached to the side of the fuse bow to give me some slack in the wires. I was thinking I could just remove the cover over the connector, but I could not get the bottom of the cover to come loose. aughhhh
