TOYTEC SPACER, OME 885'S, OME STRUTS, TOYTEC DIFF DROP KIT, TOYTEC CARRIER BEARING DROP KIT, LIGHT RACING UCA'S, DEALER TSB'S, OME AAL, OME SHOCKS, VISTA TOP, GROM AUDIO IPOD INTERFACE, ALL PRO EXTENDED BRAKE LINES, ALL PRO SLIDERS, FULL LIMO TINT, AMERICAN RACING MOJAVE WHEELS, WILD COUNTRY XTX 285-70-17, HI-LIFT, TOYTEC HI-LIFT SLIDER ADAPTER

I did just that....see my previous post. I cut them of, smoothed the cut so it would not eat the tire from vibration, and primered the cut. I tried shoving a fully inflated 285-75-16 mounted on a Wheelers Offroad Steel wheel with 4.5 backspace and............................it fit, but it was pinched between the towing receiver and the axle diff cap. At full axle articulation it rubbed on the cap. To make matters worse, it hung out the bottom and reduced clearance fairly significantly.

I have a 2007 double cab short bed. I am curious if there is a difference between the double cab and extend cab dimensions and if the axle is moved back more? Maybe there is less space back there? I even tried deflating it to around 15 PSI and using a ratcheitng tie down to pull it back to the towing receiver.

My feeling is if I ditched the towing receiver I could get ti to fit further back.

But, in this case I may as well go for a new bumper and swing gate.

    Dah!

How much was body mount modification? Long story short, I need to have this done now. Long story is below.

Cant this be resolved with an adjustment to less caster therfore moving the tire forward and closer to the steering axis? This would increase the tendency to wander, but would also reduce steering effort and improve steering rack longevity.

I only ask this question because I now have exactly that problem (tires rubbing on cab mount) and may need to also pursue the cab mount chop.

I have 285-70-17 tires and a 3 inch OME 885 spring lift. When I first installed the 885's I got the alignment good (camber and toe), but the caster was at .85 . With this setup I HAD NO TIRE RUB! Howevor, the stock UCA ball joint was maxed out and looked like the stud was going to snap off. Plus, the vehicle wandered around a lot, but we have really shitty roads dur to all the rain so it was liklely a combo of both.

To try to fix the problem I installed Light Racing UCA's with an adjustable balljoint that can be moved to a different position for camber and for caster.

Well, after install of the new LR UCAs, I had the alignment done, and it was put into facotry spec, with a near zero toe, near zero camber, and about 2.5 caster. This moved the tire back away from the steering axis, and, NOW I HAVE BAD TIRE RUB, and need the body mount chop.

cab chop is where i was rubbing w/ 33s and my total chaos uca's. think i paid 1 hour labor. search around on trimming for clearance and you can do some of the inner fender areas if they havent rubbed yet. might check your regional subforum and see if any one can do it for you for cheap.

oh yeah my spare tire is tight back there, it touches the hitch.

oh yeah im moving back up to the pnw in august. maybe september (if shoulder permits) we can surf westport or do a weekend surf trip on vancouver island.

I looked at the cab mount, looks like I could take a cutting wheel to it fairly easily and notch it out and just primer the wound to get the tire past the mount.

We moved up here from Maui in 2003, met up with some locals who oriented me to Westport, Neah Bay, Crescent Bay, and Twin Rivers - all good options with fun head high rounded shoulders. The dump at Neah Bay has a ledge that kicks up a fast powerful shoulder and slams over in a big slab. It's nuts on a cold winter day. Neah bay is like going back in time. Nobody there, but my truck would get jacked up there while in the water, I need my old beater 86'.

Only made one trip to Vancouver Island before I had kids, but Tofino was a great location, kids really changed my life.....haha! Now I am more of a day tripper. I have been sticking more to mountain biking for the proximity and time factor, but now they are getting older and I am ready for more trips to the coast starting this summer. We are going to be down in Manzanita a few times and Oswald/Short Sands is a good option that time of year.

what mtb do you ride? fr/dh trails? i used to live in ilwaco, wa. this was my usual spot...backyard to me at work. i know all about those cold winter days, icy wetsuit you forgot to bring in, brain freeze inside after a set on the head...good ole pnw.

    http://www.wannasurf.com/spot/North_America/USA/North_West/Washington/A_jeatey/

cab chop should be fairly easy if you got the tools/grinder. while your there trim the front and rear fender flares a bit if going to 33's.

    thanks bro!

Eh, not too bad, the steel isn't that thick but seeing how they're thin ya just have to avoid applying too much pressure or binding them when cutting, just make sure to wear eye protection because when those wheels disentegrate, they're like schrapnel, I've never minded the sparks just the fiberous schrapnel that happens when they come apart....;)

Yeah, fiberglass in the eye would be a crapy start or end to a project. Good tip, I am always lazy on the PPE, but in this case, probably a good idea!

Yeah I get a little lax sometimes with the smaller risk type proceedures but not when your sight is involved, besides how the fuck could I do any mods without being able to see, by Braille I guess...

Here is an update...don't get married if you want to spend money on your truck. In all truth just been saving to try to buy a house. A few things are in the pipe line, just gonna be closer to fall before it all comes together.

Paid like 114 per wheel...pretty sure I got 4 for under 450. Tri hooked up the 5th wheel thru discount tire forget what it ran me.

Warn 9.5XP w/ syn line, Lightforce 170s x 2, and blue sea fuse box are in the process of being installed. Winch is mounted and spooled, just gotta figure out where I want to mount the solenoid. Lights need tabs welded. Shouldn't be to long.

sortof stock. 6112/5160, pro wheels and a tune.
nice truck, especially your covert. Those ride absolutely amazing, transition definitely did their homework on them. All you need now is a reverb for it. I am getting a bottlerocket frame in a few months.

Your truck is awesome too. I need to get a lift/tires for mine so I can get to the better riding spots.

Thanks! I love the Covert...kinda mixed emotions on the Talas, has a lot of stiction. Almost got a Bottlerocket, but felt the Covert was a better choice trail/enduro riding. I'll probably build a TR250 this winter.
