The first thing, where the spring sits, is something simple to fix. The spring just needs to be compressed and turned a little bit so the bottom half falls into the groove. The second picture where the Rubber bushing is coming out a little bit to one side, that can happen, But it appears that they installed the top hat wrong. The top should only have one washer there on the top and the bottom washer should be on the bottom of the top hat. It should go nut, washer, rubber bushing, top hat, washer (Under the top hat), then the shock.

    https://youtu.be/cNItIztj7B8?feature=shared&t=101

And it is only supposed to be tightened down to 20 foot-pounds. I don't know what the heck that they used but it looks like they mashed some of the threads when they put it on and I would go back there anyway and have them fix it. If I was to have a reputable shop put this thing together for me, they should do it right and make it right whether it is a simple fix or not.

Shame on me. I had mud caked on there in late January or so. I took the pressure washer and degreaser to it without remembering to recoat it after. All that salt just found every pit from every rock.

Was probably better off just leaving the mud on there

I bought used low mileage OEM axles out of 3rd Gen Tacoma's, usually from LKQ on eBay. The prices are pretty good, and since they have low miles/a newer model year (2022-2023), the axles are not rusty/in good shape.

These were not the ones that I purchased, it looks like they switched up the CVs that they usually sold previously and now sell different ones. Mine were only like $129 A piece

Welp.....I did a thing today, mobile wall mounted spring compressor lol. Ready for the first run. Not very stable standing up but lying it down and using it works great! And technically it is very mobile.

Are you looking for one? I got a couple of OEM take offs. I kind of want to keep one as a spare. I think he said he had like 20k miles on them. If you're interested, I just ask you pay what I paid. $100/ea I think

I'm looking for two but that will have to wait. I have three wedding receptions to attend in September.

Thanks for this info. I went back to the shop that did it, and got major push-back from the mechanic. I then contacted Dobinson’s directly, out curiosity - the first thing they asked was who did the work, because it was wrong. Yesterday I returned to the shop and when I asked (in the nicest, most passive way possible) the mechanic if he wanted to try again, he started screaming at me. I had a printout of the right way to put it together, and offered it to him. He refused and said, literally, that he did not care about doing it right. So there you have it. I got my money back, but will be finding another shop to do what seems to be a pretty simple task.

Is name and shame allowed on Tacoma world because holy crap, I would want to actively warn people to not go there.
