passbook savings at .5% APR, CD's at 2%, stock market teetering at 3 year highs and ready to crash again, central bank printing money raising specter of inflation?

    why save?

no... first buy down debt, especially home loan. Then buy now 'cause in a year that $10K will be worth less and buy less and no low-risk savings will make it hold it's value.

I have very similar interests to you. No major offroading but love the truck and want it to looks awesome. I would do a small lift like 2-3". Invest in HID headlights and fog lights. Some kind of step for the sides. A light bar if your into that thing. Killer stereo. I'm putting Dick Cepek Mud Country tires on my truck because we have had awesome luck with the aggressive tire being quiet and getting miles out of them (so the best look with on road durability). If you still have money left over do an exhaust and air intake! Congrats on the truck!

In the same boat...but with about 1/10th of the budget! Not a hard core off-roader, and i don't put stuff in the back of my truck on a daily basis, but kill yourself if you think I should have purchased a car or minivan instead! Love my TRUCK!!

If I had that kind of budget, I still wouldn't do more than a 3" lift, sliders, tires/wheels, CAI, Headers, Exhaust, HIDs, Navigation, Reverse Camera (if you don't already have it) etc. Pretty much thin that "iamrayziam" has the perfect ride for my style! Check out his build thread!

3" lift with adjustable shocks and AAL, TPS disabled, anytime locker mod, MOOG greasable ball joints and adjustment pins, URD M3 s/c, Pioneer nav headunit, xplod 1000w amp, 10" infinity sub, tinted windows, lightly tinted tails, color matched front grill with blacked out emblem. Do battle scars count as mods?? =D
Tinted windows is always my first mod to any vehicle, I hate people being able to look inside. Another first if it was me would be a good set of wet okole seat covers. If you have a wife that means you likely have kids... and if you have kids, you will be SOO happy to have those seat covers.

I would go with a small lift/wheels/tires, cause that is going to be the biggest improvement as far as looks go, as well as upping resale value.

If I had that much of a budget, I would be upgrading the stereo to a pioneer avic. IMO a 10" sub sounds better in my taco than my 12" does in my car, but I'm not into so much low boom that it rattles the windows of the people next to me, just good overall sound, so maybe just upgrade the sub that came in your truck?

You didn't say if you got the offroad or sport, but if you got the OR, I would ditch the chrome grill for a color matched one.

With a 10k budget, you have no excuse not to supercharge it!!!

Unless it's just an SR5, the 6' bed=Sport. No off road with 6' bed. So no need to ditch any chrome.
x1000 on the supercharger. Wish I could afford one. And OP if you are lifting don't forget to replace the stock upper control arms.

Helps, but still not enough info...

Do you want to craft it into a beast for towing? a mall-crawler? a drag truck? super lifts or does a low-rider make you drool? maybe a matching camper/topper with fully carpeted bed rug and sound system...

    What's your dream?

excellent suggestions. the truck is an '11 TRD sport 4x4 automatic. and no i would never buy another car------i have the wifes suv for those purposes. i'm not a young buck like many of you guys(46), and a truck is all i will ever drive. i do use the bed occassionally to haul sheetrock, lumber, shrubs and misc. home improvement items as well as a cannondale bicycle regularly in the warm months. i intend to mod to my desire as i am fortunate enough to do so though i do see the wisdom in saving the cash in this economy. yes i have rugrats but this is generally only used by me. the toytec ULK arrives next week then i'm going for new wheels/meats for the summer months, wet okoles, some grill insert and killer stereo. you have all convinced me-----a premium alarm should perhaps be first!

Just because I'm curious did you get UCA's too? If you plan to go over 2.5" lift you'll probably like to have them.

For looks and/or street oriented mods with that kind of budget I'd go for the supercharger, heated leather, some stereo upgrades, wheels and tires and some smaller stuff like a new grille, driving lights, HIDs. Add to that the lift and mats and I'd call it done whether or not I used up the budget.

Sliders and plate bumpers, winches, racks, etc are going to be a waste if you don't off road. Although something like bolt on sliders with the drop steps have some function on road as steps and to help prevent door dings.

If I was not buying a $10K engagement ring this is what I would have. Highlighted are options I think everyone would want even if not going off road.
    Leer or ARE Topper $2800
    Kenwood 9980
    GPS $2000
    Relentless Fab Rock Rails $330

Fuse Block with accessories < $200
    Viair Onboard Air $550

    Tire Puncture Repair Kit $40

    Hi-Lift X-TREME Jack $100
    OME Lift $1000
ARB Deluxe Bull Bar w/ Fogs $1300
    Warn Winch $1500
    Weather Tech Floor Mats $170
    Grillcraft Grille $120
    3 Hella Lamps $1400

Ok over by about 1500 already and there are still wheels, tires, uca’s, rear bumper and all winching extras. I think you need to ask for $15k and then we can get something done.

M-60 with turret mount can be fitted nicely to the bed of your 4x4. Cabelas had an original US Ord M-60 with the full auto tax stamp in place recently. You should do it.
