So my friend Steven (Stupid Hurts) came down last week and I installed the new Ready Lift Kit for 05+ 2WD 5-lug Tacoma. This is a front spacer and rear AAL lift. Here are the 2 snags the company leaves you hanging on. Now prior to the install a while back, I viewed the video that Ready Lift has available and of course they make everything seem like it bolts itself together while you watch. The 2 snags were:

#1. The leaf center pins (bolts/nuts) they supply for the rear have too big of a head and it doesn't fit into the axle hole properly. Sanded them down just a hair w/sanding wheel on hand grinder.

#2. The nuts & washers for the leaf center pin (bolts/nuts) are too big to go into the hole on the u-bolt plates. I had to drill the holes bigger and ditch the washer, the factory doesn't use washers either. The picture below of the washer is after I drilled the plate so the nut would fit in.

The long stud on the top of the front coil overs does have to be cut to the same height as the other 2 are stock. No coil spring compressor needed. When the coil over is unbolted it all comes apart real easy and you just turn the stock top plate 120 degrees by hand.

The trick for installing the coil over w/spacer was to bolt the upper 3 studs/nuts first (making sure top of shock pokes through also) then use a ratchet strap around the bottom of the coil over and attach both ends of the strap to the lower arm on the other side of the truck to keep the bottom of the shock in place so I could use a pry bar and jack the arm up so the bolt would slip through while the bottom of the shock stayed in place..

Did my home alignment and he was off and riding higher...tires & sick titanium bronze wheels (Rota Grid style) coming soon. Hope this helps shed some light on this lift kit for future froaders. waytogo_82a2dcfcbf91b28330a7f12007d2d5959649daa3.gif

Thanks. We will as soon as they get here. He doesn't have the tires yet, only the wheels, and they are gonna look ssaawweett! He'll be running BFG A/T's. Next mod is that inner fender black box/liner removal/trim.

That looks great. I've been thinking about getting the readylift or the kit from Fat Bob's. I saw a thread on TN (I think) that was saying the same thing about the clearance of the bolt heads on the rear leafs. Not sure if it's true for the Fat Bob's kit though.......How's the travel of the rear shocks? Somewhere I read a thread where the guy said his rear shocks had very travel after the lift. Did you change the rear shocks or have your or your brother noticed if the rear is topping out?

We put some factory Bilsteins from a 4x4/Prerunner and they were about 1.5" longer than mount to mount when fully dropped out. (perfect) I can't remember how much longer the Billie's were compared to the stock shocks though. Oh, and sorry for the confusion, he was a friend / customer not my brother.

cool, did you do the billie's on the front too? BTW, my bad about the confusion with your friend. It's late and I've had a few drinks. Oh and thanks for the pics.

Well have 1 more for me then too! The front Billies couldn't be used because they were way too long. I wanna say the rear Billie's were maybe about 1.5" longer than the stock 2WD 5-lug rears, so yes, the stock rear shocks would be a hair too short for articulating off road, a couple inches longer would be good. (like the 4x4/Prerunner length) I thought the rear Billie's were gonna be side specific, but they were the exact same length.

That's Steven's (Stupid Hurts) truck, but thanks for the compliment, much appreciated!

Forgot to add, I didn't use the supplied non locking nuts for the u-bolts, I chose to use my trusty grade 8 nyloc nuts and washers. Then I paint the nuts and threads to keep them from rusting, I make a white paint stripe on the rear of the nuts so you can look under neath and know they are tight. The torque in the instructions said, 33 ft. lbs. or something like that, which is WAY too loose IMO, (that's like hand tight) I put them at 65-70 ft. lbs.

I can take pics of the wheels tomorrow. Like Beefed said, I have already bought the wheels, but still waiting on the tires.

I beg to differ. We ARE practically brothers. Can't you see the resemblance?

I couldn't be happier with the install. I appreciate Brian (Beefed Taco) taking the time to help me out (I didn't do too much ) even though he was sick.

LMFAO ! I'm going to kill my wife for putting that pic up and letting people copy it! That's funny right there Steven. BTW, your Raviolies just made her hungry too, me, not so much, I'm more of a Mexican food guy. (you know, like Beefed Tacos & stuff) :D

Haha, it was some good ravioli. As you can see, I love cheese. :D

Haha, I knew you'd like that. Ravioli is one of the very few things I can actually cook without burning the place down. Can't blame you though; I love Mexican food too.
