I love the… ‘gotta do you own oil change’… crowd. Virtue signal a lot? I’ve done a gazilion oil changes myself but haven’t been under a vehicle to remove the oil drain plug in a few decades. Guess what? Never had a problem since putting it in the hands of someone else. Imagine that :D

What’s the biggest tire I can run without rubbing if I only change my oil every 10k miles? If I change oil every 3k miles because of metal shavings making my engine implode, can I fit 33’s without rubbing? Asking for a friend.

Also, I hate my truck because of the shit performance of this engine/transmission combo but I definitely won’t upgrade to one of their sissified “turbo” engines. I’ll keep my very powerful naturally aspirated V6 thank you very much.

Nope, I did it a month or so ago. Didn't help that the oil drain plug was hidden behind a skid plate and in a hurry/dimly lit garage drained the tranny fluid.

I'm the opposite. I used to let the shop do it with only the occasional yet minor fuckup. That is until the Tacoma and their 0W20.

I cannot find a local shop anywhere that will do oil on that truck for less than a Benjamin. And that... is fucking ridiculous.

I don't understand it. I make good income but I can't stomach dropping three figures for oil/filter. Everyone else seems to shrug at that. They also say "call a plumber/electrician/landscaper. Geez, my time is more valuable than that." Mine is not, and I don't understand how those folks can afford cost of living, unless they are way, way deeper in debt than I am.

I'm right there with you. I can easily afford to have someone else do my routine maintenance, but why waste the money, to say nothing of taking a risk on the quality of the work? I can afford the $100 easily, but the $30K for a new engine? Not so much, virtue-signaling be damned.

Aftermarket manufacturers know much more than Toyota engineers. And might as well throw that manual in the trash can. One more… never use 4WD on a flat straight road.

You crack me up every time I read your replies! lol

The situation is different for everyone.

I'm so glad to have access to a Bay/Lift on Dover Air Force Base, Delaware for $8/hr at the Auto Hobby Shop.

I buy my own oil from Walmart.com ($28) and got multi-pack of filters from Amazon for like $30.

    $28 (Oil) + $8 (Stall) + $5 (Filter) = $41

C-note for an oil change is nuts. The three dealers near me charge $59 if you bring the coupon they always have on their websites.

I'm getting ready for my 4th oil change with 15,000 miles...not worried about it at all.

I figure if they screw something up I'm covered for 125,000 miles..I DO CHECK THE LEVEL OF OIL THOUGH & FOR ANY DRIPS AFTER I GET HOME, SO FAR THERES BEEN NONE!
