There seem to be noticeably more transmission problems posted outside of TW (eg Scotty) than on this forum. Are these problems real? Are TW moderators deleting posts?

Although I own a 3G, the 4G is on a (very) short list for my next truck. It's difficult to separate fact from fiction. What is the truth?

I have seen two. Have you seen a bunch more? The two I have seen are posted on about 100 times with re-posts and videos on top of the videos and videoing taping the others over and over again. However all these are over 2. Please share links to all these other ones. I would like to read up.

Scotty is just trying to make money on fear. Typical YouTuber tactic.

Have you used Tacomaworld long? Its nuttier than a squirrel turd. You think there's some secret organized Cabal that answers to the big bosses in Japan? Like Yakuza guys fly over and cut a finger off the hand of TW mods if they don't curate this site and delete posts? Does this shit even look the least bit curated?

And who is "scotty" and why are you believing some random guy?

Just like any issue, no one knows the real failure rate other than Toyota. Anything you see on here or on YouTube is pure speculation.

If you're talking about Scotty Kilmer, I'd take what he says with a grain of salt. I watched him for a long time and had to stop when I started to realize all he was doing was spouting his generic opinions based on fear and his own theories and never used statistics. Turbos = must be bad (doesn't seem to make diesels unreliable). He's also very against the big 3 but says he'd pick Ford of the 3. I could go on and on. He has some good info now and then, but most of the time he's just ranting about his beliefs and doesn't ever really back them up.

If there were lots of "problems" with any Tacoma gen transmission, TW would be on fire. I think they are mostly bulletproof so far. The eight speed likely just as good. We'll see.

There seems to be about 12 cases out of about 100k trucks sold... Very low numbers people are making to big of a deal out of it that's what warranty is for

My personalized news feed pulls up Tacoma stories. I thought the same as you at first. However, I've been given 5 or 6 articles about the transmissions and all of them are fear articles. They all have mentioned the same "5" NHTSA complaints and the rest of the article is speculation. With the number of '24 Tacomas sold, 5 transmission failures ses like a drop in the bucket. The articles are so speculative, Toyota could sue for slander.

Haven't tried to count them but I think there are about 4 unique instances posted here and at tacoma4g.
Now, not everyone with a new Tacoma comes here so there should be more out there but it's really difficult to judge.

A high percentage of Tacoma owners will never be part of a forum or post on youtube about it.

My good friend is one of the top mechanics at the one of the biggest Toyota dealers in the D.C. area. I talked to him before before I purchased mine a few weeks ago. He said he's only seen 1 transmission issue so far and hasn't heard of any widespread issues.

And most that theirs is problem free won't post to say theirs is problem free.

Sometimes I wish I lived in their ignorant world, as they aren't compelled to purchase a chalk bag and arts-and-crafts it into yet another cupholder (because 9 is not enough), nor are they needlessly paranoid about condensation drips.

For sure. It goes both ways.

I just can't stand when people use you tube and forum posts as hard data.
