NFL Trash Talkers Thread

I’d be OK with that if they made all of the Thursday games after byes. With 2 byes each they could do that , but they won’t. Better for the players health, better games. What I don’t like is when they manipulate the schedule for money. I’m not talking about scheduling better teams for prime time. I’m talking putting most of the AFC North’s inter-divisional games and hard non-divisional games in Dec/Jan just for the ‘hard knocks’ ratings.

 

Thoughts on this new kick off nonsense?

Here are the key details of the NFL’s new hybrid kickoff rule: The kicker will kick off from the 35-yard line. The other 10 members of the kickoff team will line up at the returning team’s 40-yard line. At least nine members of the receiving team will line up five yards away at the 35-yard line.

 

I don’t mind them giving it a 1-year trial. Kickoffs are now almost always touchbacks and therefore totally useless and boring (unless it’s an onside kick). If they aren’t going to try and make it interesting then just start every drive from the 25 and don’t bother with the kick.

 

I want to say the stat last week on the Pats game was 22% were actually moved all last season.

 

The NFL’s stated reason for this 1-year trial …

“To address the lowest kickoff return rate in NFL history during the 2023 season and an unacceptable injury rate on kickoffs prior to that”

I agree with their reasoning, but have to actually see a few regular season games before deciding if I like it or not.

 

Injury lowering I'm about but agreed I need to see it.

I was skeptical of the pitch count in MLB this year but I came to appreciate it, not that I have time to watch often anyway but no way games should be as long as they were

 

You can hate on my Chiefs but nobody can really hate Andy!

Panthers still suck.

 

Time to combine my nerdy love for stats with trolling the big fan bases. Since 2002 (the last expansion and move to 8 divisions), which teams have had the most regular season and playoff success WITHOUT winning a Super Bowl?

Regular season - Cowboys: 200 wins, 10 playoff appearances (both first) and 7 division titles (tied with Texans).

Playoffs - 49ers: 22 games, 14 wins, 7 conference title appearances, 3 Super Bowl appearances (all first).

 

Cardinals look like complete trash this pre-season. Hopefully it is not telling of how our season will go.
