I will say though, that after seeing the these pictures I did have to go outside and look at my truck.

At first I thought mine was crooked too!

But after taking a tape measure to it, ON MY TRUCK, I found this to be an optical illusion.

It was all just a matter of perspective.

If I wasn't standing in exactly the same place on each side they would appear to be off but upon further examination, it was a combination of everything being curved and the reflections from the paint.

There just arent many straight lines to compare anything to.

But kudos to the OP for going and taking the pics!

I just stopped by my local and looked up the ass end of 8 trucks. I thought I was seeing it too, but then shifted my view and couldn’t see it anymore. Tried taking a photo of the worst one I could find and it seems perfect now…IMG_1047.jpgIMG_1046.jpgIMG_1045.jpgIMG_1043.jpg

You are much more dedicated to objectivity than I can ever be. Unfortunately, this won't make a dent into the mindset of a vociferous group here. Nothing will.

It's just an optical illusion- now we can add magic tricks to the list of things Tacomas can do

Sounds to me like the quality is as good (bad) as the legendary 2nd gen.

But yes if you care enough to adjust the bed, do it when the truck is relatively new, so the bed bolts don't rust and break on removal.

^A portion of 2005s (~50k per year) were made in Mexico, remainder built by UAW at NUMMI in Fremont. That's why pre-recession 2nd gens had General Motors cooling and HVAC systems.

My 24 trd off road is slightly off but it doesn't bother me and would rather live with it than let the dealer mess with it

^Hypothetically if my bed was off by 1/2 inch, I'd remove each bed bolt myself, coat the threads with anti-seize, reinstall, then adjust the bed to my liking. Maybe sandwich a rubber sheet between the plastic bed leg and frame to head off wear in that area. Better than leaving it to a flat rate dealer tech who isn't paid enough for warranty work to care.

Fleet wide, it's perfect. Mine is shifted to the right. So it averages out. Problem solved. But that plastic cap shit around the top of the bed is coming up. 2 months old.

Jeezus man. You could basically cut & paste half the threads from the first few years of the 3rd Gen forum into the 4th gen forum. Has anybody started complaining about a whining rear diff yet on the 4th Gen? The more things change, the more they stay the same I guess. I've been lurking on the 6th Gen Ford Ranger forum & there have been a few posts complaining about bed alignment, body gaps & general fit & finish over there too...

There can and will probably be legitimate issues. But dishonest tapping of the keyboard like that makes me reflexively doubt any claim. Kinda opposite of their intended mission.

Theres a more precise way to look at which makes it a no brainer
BUT!!!! Can I explain it right....
Face the tailgate & look at the back of the cab area
where the bed meets the back of the cab..
On the bed, where the bedrail caps meet the very back of the bed, makes like a gun-sight type divit....
If you look through that sight & see where it strikes the Back of the cab, it will be obvious....
Even viewing from the op's way of viewing, mine is also not centered correctly. Doesnt surprise me though at this point...
But mine actually isnt that bad...
Not an optical illusion as some stated.....

The blue & white one in the op's pics is ridiculously off...
Its not an illusion as a few have stated....

Hondagm, I thought I had the same alignment issue on the tailgate just as youre posting.
    You dont have an issue...
Open the tailgate & when you close it just be a tiny bit more forceful.
That tailgate is not full latched, just on the left side...
    They call that "normal characteristic"

If that’s true, then something is wrong. Tailgate shouldn’t only latch one side
