Do I really need a new, longer brake line?

I'm getting ready for a suspension upgrade, OME 881 and Nitrochargers all 'round, and I was talking to a guy in Anchorage who said I wouldn't need to install a new, longer brake line.

He told me instead to bend/twist a bracket that holds the brake line, therefore shortening its route. Having never seen what bracket he's talking about, was this good advice or utter foolishness?

 

If you are putting 881s in the front and doing nothing in the back (assuming totally stock), you don't need one.

If you mod the rear suspension at all, put the rear of the truck on stands and let the rear suspenion sag and watch the brake line to see if has adequate length for max suspension travel (don't let it get straight).

 

Thanks, Scott. I'm replacing worn out stock shocks, with OME 60062s, but leaving the leaf pack alone right now as I have a set of air bags to make up the difference. I don't know if the shocks by themselves will raise it up much.

 

Your'e welcome. The shocks have no effect on ride height. They just dampen the spring bounce.

 

The OP has a first gen. It doesn't have the same brackets.
