My friend had a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road and traded it in for a new 2023 TRD 4Runner Off Road and he raved about a heated steering wheel. I think it's a cool option and I found a new wheel for my 2018 Tacoma and will be doing that mod. Anyhow he claims his 2017 Tacoma had a heated steering wheel which I didn't think was available as an option or even offered on a 3rd gen. I didn't say anything, but does anyone know if it was an option?

Nope, you'd need the 4runner spiral cable, steering wheel and airbag, it would be well over 2500$ before your hands got warm.

No heated steering wheel available in 2016. Here is the 2016 Specs PDF in case you want to see all the packages and options offered in 2016.

Keep some gloves in the glove box.

You don’t need much. I’ve used summer mountain bike gloves down to 10F or thereabouts. Below that I tend to use something a bit heftier. The boy scout in me won’t let leave home without a decent set of gloves when it gets cold.

I called bullshit when I heard this but didn’t want to hear a bunch of crap. He claims his 4Runner has a special newer engine as why he is getting poor mileage like 14 around town. I did say maybe you need to have the dealer look at it. I said my wife 2020 limited get 18 as that what the computer shows. I then heard all the crap as the off road is different with a high out put engine and because it was an off road. Just had to bite my young and roll on, some people have no clue what they have.

The 2024 4runner is identical to a 2010 4runner except for the radio and lights lol. The engine isnt even direct injection and the transmission still has only 5 gears.

It's good, but its easily the oldest model of any brand.

I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
I don't think a heated steering wheel has ever been an option in the Tacoma, but it would be a much more useful feature than heated seats.

I tend to agree. Ive never liked heated seats. They make my butt sweat. My buddy turns his on just to mess with me. My base trim off-road doesn’t have heated seats. No regrets.

On the flip side, there have been many very cold mornings when i was without gloves and my hands suffered for it. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

It would be nice if Toyota listened to customers and offered some of the things other manufacturers do. I had an suv with heated steering wheel and heated seats. I used the heated steering wheel more than the seats in cold Canadian winters. It was very nice. I also had a gen 2 Tacoma. Had to replace the stock side mirrors with heated ones. Ridiculous to sell a truck in Canada without heated mirrors. Also put on a lace up leather steering wheel cover. What a royal pain those 2 jobs were.

Did he buy it new? May have been an aftermarket mod. I have a 2021 TRD Sport. After a fender bender (not my fault) The stealership/body shop listed all equipment on the invoice, including the power folding mirrors. These were not OEM. I added them to make it easier to get in the one car garage. Got the kit from KTJO 4x4. I understand some parts are Toyota OEM parts, just not from a Tacoma. Having Toyota 360 cams made it MUCH more work.

Tbh I like heated (cloth) seats. But then again, I used to run a TDI where that was literally the only thing keeping me warm until the engine warmed up to blow hot air in the winter, and the TDIs didn't really warm up at idle much, so I'd have to be driving a couple of minutes until it warmed. Also on the Rav where in EV mode it's just heat pump doing it's thing, and those kinda suck below 30F, again, until the engine warms up which in EV mode it never does. But thank goodness for remote pre heat while still plugged in ..

Heating steering wheel has its moments but if I had an add they would be the cooled ventilated seats to go along with the heated ones.

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like them! They remind me of the sensation of sitting on a public toilet seat that's still warm from the last guy who used it.

I've gone through one winter with this truck, and only used them twice, just to try them out.

Heated steering wheels would be a game-changer... plus a heated gear shift, for us manual guys.
